19th annual PebbleCreek Pooch Parade a success

Jim Ellison

On Saturday, April 4 The Pet Companions Club of PebbleCreek held its nineteenth annual PebbleCreek Pooch Parade Fundraiser. One hundred and eight individuals, area organizations and businesses stepped forward to sponsor this event by donating raffle prizes and making cash donations. PebbleCreek residents also generously supported this event by their participation. As a result, $1,808.16 was raised to support Pammy’s 2nd Chance Rescue and our own animal rescue efforts here in PebbleCreek. Pam Boren, president and founder of Pammy’s 2nd Chance Rescue, was present to meet residents and discuss her organization. Also in attendance was Sonia Hernandez from the Animal Defense League of Arizona to present information on the Spay/Neuter Hotline of Maricopa County.

A large gathering of families and dogs turned out to support this event and Easter baskets were available for the children present. Nine dogs paraded in their best finery and first, second and third place prizes were awarded for Best Costume.

The winners were the following:

First Place Trophy and Gold Medal: Tommy, a Poodle/Terrier mix, owned by Colleen and Sam McMaster.

Second Place Silver Medal: Cooper, an English Cocker Spaniel, owned by Randy and Barbara Plymell.

Third Place Bronze Medal: Teddy, a Lhasa Apso, owned by Alex and Christine Douglas.

I would like to thank the following board members and volunteers who worked so hard to make our annual pooch parade a success: Committee Chairman Gina Bonnett, Marge Ellison, Mollie McErlean, Diane Fekete, Sandy Smith, Julie Schilling, Carolyn Storz, Nebbi Braun, Lucretia and Fred Agostarola, Carolyn Dolezal, Colleen McMaster, Jean Dean, Carolyn Campbell, Mary Garrison, Fran Sargent, Sally Wilber and Dale Rezny.

I would also like to thank the residents and their families who turned out for this charity event in support of Pammy’s 2nd Chance Rescue and the animal rescue efforts in our community. Special thanks to Bob Young who did such a wonderful job as our emcee again this year.
