Gillian Driscoll and Ross Hart
The PebbleCreek Ukulele group is entering its third year by becoming an official club and is reaching out to uke players and anyone interested in learning this fun instrument. Ross Hart, a nine-year PebbleCreek resident with a longtime musical history, started the group because of his interest in making music with others and with the ukulele in particular.
“The ukulele is easy to learn and fun to play with a group,” says Ross. “It can be adapted to many different kinds of music from the 1920s to folk or even rock ‘n roll plus, of course, the music of Hawaii. Even with just a few simple chords, anyone can play many songs.”
The PC Ukulele Club comprises residents from all walks of life, some with musical experience and some beginners. Under the direction of Jim Miller, retired music educator, the club plays a variety of music. Jim’s expertise and easy-going manner has helped the group to develop and improve their musical skills. Some group members have even performed a few times for PC events over the past year, although performance is voluntary.
The club will resume its weekly meetings on Tuesday, October 9 in Room 100 at the Eagle’s Nest Activities Center. Beginners meet at 5:45 p.m. for instruction with Ross or Jim. The regular jam begins at 6:30 and goes until 8:00 p.m. All are welcome, including others who play complementary instruments such as guitar, percussion, harmonica etc., and would like to play along. Singing is also encouraged but again, not required. PC Ukulele Club is a fun-oriented group. Come along and join us!
