Saturday, March 12 marked a milestone for PebbleCreek and for the Rug Hookers of PebbleCreek. The club hosted our first Hook-In! Many weeks of planning and sleepless nights passed before this event was a reality. However, from the response of the attendees, it was worth it all! This was truly a group effort with many hands and heads involved. A special thanks to June Bennett who orchestrated the logistics. “It takes a village” to pull off a successful event is so true!

The event drew hookers from as far as Pennsylvania as one of the registrants from Tucson had her long-time friend and hooking partner arrange her visit to Arizona to correspond with the Hook-In. A former resident of PebbleCreek and member of our club who now resides in San Antonio also attended. The group was a gathering of 66 hookers, including one male! The majority of our club, 20 members in all, were there.

In addition to comments about the lovely rugs, creative centerpieces, exciting silent auction offerings, clever name tags and fancy quillie pins, many outside attendees said we have a beautiful development and we are lucky to be living here. The only thing we seemed to be lacking was an ATM which someone wanted in order to increase their bidding on the over thirty auction items! Visitors especially liked that we had greeters outside the Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse assisting them with unpacking and providing directions to the ballroom. The size of the building can be a little overwhelming if you are not familiar with the layout.

Perhaps Priscilla Sharp, one of the founding members of our club, summed it up best by stating, “We have come a long way!” She remembered when the group began in 2003 with a couple of women who gathered in one another’s homes. She said she found herself marveling at how the club managed to fill the expansive ballroom with a myriad of items and enthusiastic artists.

Mark your calendars as next year the Rug Hookers of PebbleCreek plan on holding another event. The date is March 4, 2017, and the Hook-In will be open to PC residents during the final hour. Prior to that, stop in and see what the PC Rug Hookers are currently working on. We welcome your visit and would be happy to show you how the craft is done. The Rug Hookers meet every Monday afternoon from noon to 4:00 p.m. in the Diamondback Room of the Creative Arts Center.
