Theodore (Teddy) Bear

I am Mom’s special teddy bear

Marion Wilson

Hello, PebbleCreekers! My name is Theodore (Teddy) Bear, I am a miniature schnauzer and I was born and raised in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire 11 years ago. I received my name because my mother made Teddy Bears from old mink coats. There was always flying fur at our house while the bears were being made, but I never touched them or ripped them apart. I knew better.

My mother traveled each year to PebbleCreek to spend the winter with her son. I remained behind and stayed with three Goldens, Ripple, Gus and Murphy. We loved to romp in the snow and run in the fields, but I missed my mother those long months.

Two years ago my mother became ill and decided to remain in Arizona. She is now a resident of Hacienda Del Rey, which is an assisted living and memory care facility in Litchfield Park. Mom’s room is adorned with her handmade bears.

Well, I decided that I could not live so far away, so I took my first airplane ride to my new home in PebbleCreek. I have to say it was quite an experience and I would not want to travel by air again. The plane was like a roller coaster, shaking, rattling and rolling.

I have a new brother Golden. His name is Willow and we have become best friends. He is young so I have to remind him who is in charge from time to time. I recently had major surgery and Willow was right by my side. It was comforting to lie against him while I healed.

I really love the warm weather, but in the summer we must walk in the morning since the ground becomes so hot. I do miss grass, but the upside is that there aren’t any ticks; however, we do keep a watchful eye for stray coyotes.

The best part is that four times a week I have visitation with my mother at Hacienda Del Rey. I stay for the afternoon and get picked up in time for my dinner. I am not allowed to go more often since my mother is very busy with all her crafts and social activities which, I am told, she would give up if I am there too often.

I have decided that I am definitely an Arizonan and here to stay as a PebbleCreeker dog.
