PebbleCreek Democratic Club members visit Du Jour restaurant

PC Dem Club members enjoy Du Jour in Scottsdale.

Thirty-four members of the PebbleCreek Democratic Club traveled to Scottsdale on May 9 to sample the culinary delights of Du Jour Restaurant, part of the Arizona Culinary Institute.

The Du Jour restaurant gives the students at the school a chance to practice the cooking and serving skills they are learning in the classroom.

The luncheon started with an amuse bouche spring roll. Amuse bouche translates to ‘mouth amuser’ and is a small complementary dish provided by the chef. The restaurant’s menu changes daily, hence the name Du Jour. The menu for our luncheon featured a choice between an unusual Greek salad with a thin cucumber slice that enveloped the rest of the salad ingredients or a cream of cauliflower soup. The entrée choices were roast striploin, salmon or chicken cacciatore. At the end of the meal, each diner was presented with a plate containing a trio of luscious desserts: cheesecake, strawberry shortcake and a chocolate-dipped strawberry. The strawberry was dipped in white and dark chocolate that looked like a tuxedo – a very innovative presentation.

Throughout the summer, the club will continue to hold their monthly Women’s Luncheons, the Men’s Breakfasts (the second Wednesday of every month), the Saturday 8:00 a.m. breakfasts in Eagle’s Nest Alcove and the monthly Mexican Train night. These are in addition to the one-time events that may be planned such as gathering in the Palm Room for the annual Thanksgiving in July that the HOA plans. All events are posted on the club website.

Our meetings will resume on the second Wednesday of the month in September. If interested, please check our website at www.pcdemclub.org for upcoming events and for the new member application on the bottom corner.
