PCLGA’s awesome cancer survivors!

The PebbleCreek Ladies Golf Association’s Cancer Awareness Tournament, “Let’s Flamingle Fore the Cure,” was held on January 14, 2020. One hundred forty-four women dressed in various shades of pink played an “Alternate Shot Flamingo” game on the Tuscany Falls East Course.

Players formed their own “flock” and winners of the tournament earned bragging rights, rather than monetary prizes. First place winners were:

Flight 1: Mary Falso, Mary Harris, Marilyn Reynolds, and Pam Schunke.

Flight 2: Carolyn Apodaca, Sharma Fleming, Cathy Schafer, and Donna Staples.

Flight 3: Dana Becraft, Anne Gaus, Nancy Moore, and Tricia Self.

Flight 4: Tess Braden, Chris Cook, Vicki McLaughlin, and Jean Ostroga.

Flight 5: Diane Faulkner, Linda Glazar, Ellen Stergulz, and Karen Uherchik.

Flight 6: Sharon Dawe, Chris Duprey, Carol Langhardt, and Sandra Rivera.

Congratulations to all the winners!

After the round, everyone gathered into a beautifully decorated ballroom. Flamingos were everywhere and, obviously, pink was the dominant color. Players enjoyed a soup, wrap, and flamingo cookie luncheon.

PCLGA players donated $5000 to the National Foundation for Cancer Research. This money was raised in several ways, including individual cash donations, raffle baskets and items, and a 50/50 raffle drawing. Plus, Pam Volm coordinated the pinwheel honor garden once again. PCLGA members donated pinwheels in memory of a friend or relative who was a victim of cancer or in honor of a survivor. The garden was very beautiful and moving to look at.

Many thanks for the generous donations of baskets and items, such as a golf bag, by PebbleCreek golf groups and individuals. Their donations generated a lot of raffle ticket sales and that money was donated to the National Foundation for Cancer Research.

The true highlight of the tournament was the opportunity to recognize and honor members who have survived or are currently battling the disease. A pink rose was given to each one along with a heart-warming standing ovation.

Many thanks to our co-chairs, Liz Wenzler and Chris Urbatchka, for planning such a great tournament. Super job, ladies!
