The month since our last PebbleCreek Democratic Club meeting has been filled with campaign activities: dropping campaign literature, making phone calls, writing postcards and letters, sending text messages to potential voters, standing at the four corners of McDowell and PebbleCreek Parkway waving signs for the Biden/Harris and Mark Kelly campaigns, working at the polls, and making sure our friends, family members, and neighbors all voted.

In between the flurry of activities, we have started a return to normal—not our in-person normal, but Zoom normal! The monthly men’s breakfast and women’s luncheons are meeting again, but on Zoom. Book clubs are meeting on Zoom. Newcomers’ meetings are getting scheduled on Zoom, as club and board meetings already were.

At the end of October, we participated in our first online murder mystery Don Carrasino and the Murdered Mobster, which was so much fun! Members played the crooks, killers, mobsters, or gang-members employed by Don Carrasino, a notorious mafioso. The setting is that the eight characters, plus the Don himself and his consigliere, Danny “Chuckles” Luciano, were enjoying drinks, cards, and conversation at The Joint, Don Carrasino’s personal bar. The evening was shaping up to be quite festive when suddenly Chuckles fell over dead at the bar, clutching at his throat.

Then it was up to the audience, guided by clues from the characters, to figure out what happened to the Don’s right-hand man! The director was George Karlan-Petersen, who also played Antonio “Lefty” Bonocello, the Don’s bodyguard. Other actors/club members included Bob Millikan, playing Gino Cabella, the hitman; Becky Rhodes as Catalina ‘Crazy Cat’ Macciano; Marie McWhyte as Claudia Navarra, the Don’s girl; Chuck Veltri playing Lorenzo Pennino, the driver; Ross Hart as “Dirty Vinnie” Marino, the conman; Ethel Schatz as Roxie “Stiletto” Russo, the thug; and Patti McEnerney as Regina Giuseppe, the bartender. At the end of the evening, participants agreed we would love to have more dramas to solve!

Next up on the December social agenda, Zoom Bingo with prizes! Members, look for an announcement email coming out soon.

As we wrap up 2020, we celebrate those wins we earned, mourn those contests in which we were not victorious, and are grateful for family, friends, neighbors, and our PebbleCreek community. The last meeting of the year will be Dec. 2. Remember that elections for the club officers and board will be held in January and that information on nominating and election processes will come by email.
