News from the PebbleCreek Shalom Club

Laurie Rosenbloom

This month marks the end of the calendar year and also brings changes to our board members. Thank you to the following members for their service as officers to the Shalom Club Board: Mark Frumkin, Treasurer; Alice Neuwirth, Secretary; Lil Wattenberg, Membership Chair; Laurie Rosenbloom, Publicity Chair; Howard and Ricki Isador, Jewish Events Chair.

Also, many thanks to our Nominating Committee: Lil Wattenberg, Board Liaison, Don Alexander, Tom Drucker and Joan Wendroff.

The Shalom Club’s annual Chanukah Party, the festival of lights, will be held on Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. in Tuscany Falls Ballroom.

This holiday is referred to as “the miracle of lights” because the Temple lights remained lit for eight days even though there wasn’t enough oil for more than one day. Bring your menorahs to our party in celebration of this festive holiday. Dinner will be served and we will have a DJ for dancing. Guests are also welcome.

Other upcoming events include: Old Jews Telling Lies created by Peter Gethers and Daniel Okrent. This is based on five actors, in a comedy, whom pay tribute and reinvent classic jokes from the past and present.

Dec. 25 at 7 p.m. in the Herberger Theater; $44 per person (send checks to Mark Frumkin-payable to PC Shalom Club).

Mark your calendar: Jan. 22nd-We will host a forum with a most distinguished speaker. This presentation will be open to all PC residents as a community service. Our host will be Lori Gary, Director of Economic Development for the City of Goodyear. A full and separate article is expected to run this month in the PC Post with detailed information. Thank you, Steve Shaffer, for organizing this event.

December’s book group will meet at Shari Baer’s home on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 10:30 a.m. The book chosen to discuss is titled, A Tale of a Ring by Ilan Sheinfeld (an Israeli writer).
