Missions Activities Continue in Different Ways

Edna DeFord and Beth Cunningham

Our PebbleCreek Community Church has faced many challenges this year by not being able to worship in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom, but we have kept busy finding different ways to support all of our sponsored missions. Once again, we are going to partner with Samaritan’s Purse to fill and collect Operation Christmas Child’s shoe-sized boxes. These boxes go to disadvantaged children in 110 countries and on American Indian Reservations. Those wishing to participate can obtain the official decorated shoe boxes from Edna DeFord (15081 W. Fairmount Avenue in Eagle’s Nest) and Barbara Cahall (4086 N. 161st Avenue in Tuscany). Participants are then asked to fill their shoe boxes with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and/or small articles of clothing and return them before the Saturday, Nov. 21 deadline to the homes noted above between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. In lieu of obtaining and filling shoe boxes, checks may be sent to PCCC Treasurer Syd Mersereau (15180 W. Avalon Drive, Goodyear, AZ 85395) designated for OCC Shoe Boxes. Additionally, you can fill a shoe box online for $25 at shorturl.at/hzFK7.

Closer to home, we continue to help with the Agua Fria Food & Clothing Bank Holiday Food Distribution where big changes have been made due to the virus restrictions. On Nov. 24, 450 families will receive their Thanksgiving food baskets via a drive through pickup in the Compass Church parking lot. On Dec. 19, 800 families will be able to obtain their Christmas dinner basket, plus toys for their children, via a drive through pickup in the Palm Valley Church parking lot. Groups can collect food items and take them directly to Agua Fria Food & Clothing Bank 405 E. Harrison Drive in Avondale. Checks can also be sent to Agua Fria Food and Clothing Bank at P.O. Box 845 Avondale, AZ 85323 to help purchase food for the baskets. A $35 check will provide a holiday dinner for a family of four. We pray that our PebbleCreek Community will be generous this year, as in the past, and provide the means for the Agua Fria Food Bank to brighten the holidays for those less fortunate. Volunteers are needed to help with these activities, and if you wish to lend a helping hand, contact Phylice Walton at 623-535-7556. PebbleCreek Community Church is a non-denominational church. During our COVID shut-down of the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom, we welcome you to join us in worship each Sunday at 9 a.m. on our church website at  www.churchpcc.org. Pastor Bob Ripley also posts his “Words of Encouragement” on our website each Tuesday and Thursday.
