Kyler Kenney and Jerry Treece, long-time PCMGA members, came in fifth place in the super senior flight (age 70+) of the Arizona Golf Association Club Team Championship. The format was a 2-man scramble. There was a 6-drive minimum for each player. The championship final round was played at the Moon Valley Country Club in Phoenix on Dec. 9.

In the finals Kyler and Jerry competed against nine super senior teams from around the state. The weather quickly changed during the round and play was stopped due to lightning. A two-hour delay resulted. They finished their final hole in the dark. They played well by making five birdies and generated four other reasonable birdie attempts. But they also made four bogies due to missed greens. They shot a gross score of 71 and a net 68.34. The winning gross score was 61 and the winning net score was 59.

Kyler and Jerry want to thank the PCMGA for their support in this statewide tournament.

The AGA Club Team Championship qualifying process began on Sept. 5, in a local event held at our Eagle’s Nest Golf Course. Forty-one teams competed for low gross and low net scores. Three teams in the all-age flights and two teams in the super senior flight advanced to a regional qualifier. The all-age teams that advanced included Bill Volm and Lee Havener, John McCrickard and Pete Bahnmueller, and John Howell & Rick Haendel. The super senior teams that advanced included John Krasnan and Jim Bundschuh and Kyler and Jerry.

All five PebbleCreek teams gallantly competed and well represented our community at the regional events, however, only Kyler and Jerry advanced to the championship final round.

In order to advance to the finals, Kyler and Jerry had to compete against nine other teams in the regionals at Arrowhead Country Club on Nov. 18. Jerry described the highlight of that round. On hole 10, they faced some pressure to get his drives in as Kyler drove the ball beautifully all day. Needing two more drives with four holes to play, Jerry striped a drive, then hit a hybrid to within four feet of the hole. Kyler converted the birdie putt. They shot a gross score of 67 (5 under par) with six birdies and one bogey to take second low gross.

Congratulations to Kyler and Jerry on their performance and representing PebbleCreek well!
