“Hustle and heart set us apart” Tennis Club news

Roxie Forrest

Fund the shed! And boy did we! The new shed for our tennis club has been approved and construction should start very soon! Our members played a very important role in accomplishing this task. Donations were very generous which helped build our funds to pay one-half of the cost. A huge thank you to all of you who donated!

As of March 31, 2018, we have 276 paid members of which 29 are social members. With the heat of the summer fast approaching, the number of members using our courts has increased in the early morning hours as well as into the early evenings.

What do we do with old tennis balls you ask? Dennis Whitley has been boxing up our old tennis balls and sends them to reBounces for recycling. In the words of reBounces, “utilizing our patented, revolutionary technology, you can now restore dead tennis balls in bulk back to their original bounce! The Green Tennis Machine extends the life of your practice balls, improves ball consistency in your teaching baskets, helps by saving money on practice balls and reduces the number of tennis balls purchased and put into the waste stream.” reBounces also partners with a company to build tennis courts. “Tennis balls that have bounced their last on the court will now leave a legacy for the bounce of future generations of tennis balls as they can now be ground up and incorporated as a component in tennis court construction and resurfacing.” “Up to 10,000 tennis balls are incorporated into a single cushioned court surface and can provide a 21 percent force reduction.”

In other news around the courts, brackets and clamps were installed to hold our squeegees and to keep them out of the Arizona sun; new outside furniture was delivered to the TF court patio; and the resurfacing of courts 3, 4, 5 and 6 should take place in July or August. Watch our website for information regarding this.

The Many Happy Returns social was well attended with all but one court filled! Date night on April 20 was another success. Thank you to the Men’s Drop-In for assisting with the kitchen clean-up! Kudos to Diane Bostock and Jill Santy for their hard work on all these events. Date night is finished for the summer but will resume in the fall.

Our next board meeting will be held on September 5, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the TF Tennis Hut. Go to www.pebblecreektennis.org to keep abreast on all the plans for summer events! If questions arise, please contact our president, John Flynn at 503-318-3575 or any of the board members listed on the website.
