Summer exploratory hiking activity got off to a great start after a record regular season ended and on May 25 six hikers headed north on I-17 to the Badger Springs exit to conduct a somewhat challenging and adventurous eight mile hike along and in the Agua Fria riverbed in the 88,000 acre Agua Fria National Monument. It was early enough in the summer that the river had a fair amount of water and required scrambling between and over numerous boulders (as well as some rock-hopping); however, it was a very interesting and scenic hike and was new territory for the group and will likely be added as a regular season hike. The club tries to offer a variety of hikes for different levels of fitness; visit the club website at pchikers.org for more information and photos.
