Beat the Pro Tournament

Randy Prinz

It was a cool and breezy morning to start the Putters Club Beat the Pro Tournament. Betty Ann was at the check-in table to help get us all organized and did a fine job as usual. Jason explained the rules as the breezes started blowing and rustling the trees. The winners were to receive a sleeve of golf balls only if they could beat Jason’s score.

Many of the participants donned jackets or sweaters before we began as the increased wind made it a little cool on the green. The course was crowded since more were allowed because of only one tee time. There were more men than usual on this day all wanting a chance to triumph over our Pro Jason. The ladies had most of their best there as well and they knew they were going to win. As is typical with the Putters Club the ladies overwhelmingly outnumbered the men.

The tournament started and soon the cheers rang out as one of the Putters scored a hole-in-one and then another and another. There were also a few moans which could be discerned as someone unleashed an errant putt. Jason was continually harassed (all in good fun). After all, he was the target on this day. With the large group on the green we were not only putting around leaves that the wind had deposited on the green but we also had to watch for many feet in the way as well.

We completed the putting and not sure but Jason may still be out there. Actually, Jason did not have a stellar day on the green scoring a 42(?).

He made a lot of contestants happy as they walked away with their sleeve of golf balls. The scorer’s table was inundated receiving all the score cards at the same time and calculating the final scores and also passing out numerous sleeves of golf balls. A few of the better Putters offered Jason lessons but he graciously declined. The tournament was a lot of fun for all and if you didn’t walk away with a sleeve of golf balls you really had a bad day.
