This is definitely a unique and exciting election year. The right to vote was hard won, especially for women and minorities. We all need to take advantage of this privilege no matter what our political persuasions are.

In Arizona we are extremely fortunate to have a safe and easy voting program. Everyone can check their voting status via theelections.maricopa.gov website. On this website you can not only view or edit your status, but also do many other things such as check on candidates in your voting districts, request a one-time ballot to be sent to your outoftown or state address (ballots are not forwarded by the USPS), and check the various deadlines for requesting, mailing, and dropping off ballots.

Here are some important dates to know:

Oct. 7: Voter registration deadline

Oct. 9: First day to mail in ballots. Drop boxes available.

Oct. 25: Last day to request an early ballot

Oct. 29: Last day to mail ballots. Ballots can only be dropped off after this date.

Nov. 5: Election Day

Many PebbleCreek (PC) Democratic Club members are actively working on this election. One member who goes above and beyond is Judy Daubenmire. Judy and her husband Mike are active members of the PC Democratic Club and are also snowbirds from Michigan. Judy has been active in the Michigan Democratic Party since 2004 when she worked for the John Kerry presidential campaign. In 2008 she became chair of the Livingston County Democratic Party, a position she has held ever since with the exception of one year. She serves on the Michigan Democratic Party’s State Central Committee where she is a member of the resolutions committee. This year Judy had the honor to be chosen as a delegate for the 7th Congressional District in Michigan. Being selected as a delegate is a recognition of an individual’s hard work and dedication to the political arena. Whether one is a Democrat or a Republican, these individuals are to be commended for their service to our democracy.

Judy spent 25 years as a journalist in Iowa and Michigan. She has a doctorate in American history from the University of Michigan and taught Native American Studies there from 2003 and 2015. The Daubenmires have one daughter.

The PC Democratic Club is proud to have Judy and Mike as members and thank them for their dedicated work and selfless volunteering in both Michigan and Arizona.

On Oct. 10 the club is hosting a Black and White Masquerade Dinner Dance at 5:30 p.m. in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. This event is open to all and signup details can be found at pcdemclub.org.

The PebbleCreek Democratic Club will meet on Oct. 9 in the Eagles Nest Ballroom. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. Our meetings are open and all are welcome.
