PCMGA conducts “Big Break” skills contest

On Wednesday, April 23 the PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association provided for numerous activities as part of the Member-Guest Tourney. The activities included the Adams Demo Club Fitting with Launch Monitor, the Adams/Adidas/Ashworth Pro Shop, practice rounds and a skills contest just like the one on the Golf Channel’s Big Break program.

The skills event consisted of three separate challenges: a nine hole putting contest (member and guest alternated putts), a flop shot over the wall and a target shot. The object was to get the lowest score. There were winners for each challenge, plus an overall winner.

Most of the holes for putting were 20 feet plus, so a two putt was a good score. The deal breaker was the ninth hole as the right handed players had to putt left handed and vice versa. It was rumored that an eight putt was recorded for this hole! As you know, most rumors are true!

The flop shot required the player to skillfully fly his ball over a 10 foot wall onto the green within the target zone. The best score was zero points for landing in the center of the bulls eye. The highest score was 50 points for not carrying the wall. Most players scored 40 points for carrying the wall but landing outside the target zone.

The final challenge was the target shot. From 15 yards the player had to hit a yellow metal square that was located inside a green metal target (a lot cheaper than breaking glass like on TV). The player scored zero points for hitting the yellow target. The highest score was 50 points for missing the entire green target altogether.

Skills Contest Winners: Putting, Bob Millikan and Kermit Reich; Flop Shot, Steve Straley and Don Woods; Target Shot, Roy Bridges and Bart Price. Overall winner: Deral Sax and Daron Sax.

The PCMGA would like to thank all of the volunteers who made this skills contest happen. From the grounds crew who set up the wall and target, to the gals who did the registration and to the gals from the Circle who kept score. It was a success because of you. Thanks again! v
