The Everly Brothers Experience featuring The Zmed Brothers January 6, 2019

For the last two years The Zmed Brothers have celebrated the pivotal music and history of The Everly Brothers legacy with enthusiastic crowds all across the US and overseas in prestigious venues. The Zmed’s say, “The music of the ’50s and ’60s are nostalgic to us, our parents raised us on it and we feel that the Everly’s contribution is greatly overlooked, especially by younger generations. Our aim is not to impersonate but to do our best in honoring the aesthetics of their iconic sound and in honoring the important role they played pioneering the rock n’ roll movement, all while having a little fun telling our own personal story,” and they do just that. Growing up with a father, (Adrian Zmed) as a traveling singer, dancer, actor (Grease 2, Bachelor Party, T.J. Hooker), and a mother (Barbara) as a second-grade teacher in a suburb of Los Angeles, the Zmed Brothers continuously strive to pay homage to their personal roots by always infusing an instinctual blend of entertainment (a la Smothers Brothers) and contextual education in their performance. The Everly brothers’ career lasted over half a century; they recorded 21 studio albums, sold more than 60 million records worldwide, had 35 billboard top -100 singles, among the highest ranking of any rock duo ever. They received numerous accolades in their later career and influenced countless legendary artists that came after them including The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Bee Gees, Neil Young, and the list goes on. National Performing Artists Series: Dan Reed’s Dixieland Hotshots 7 Piece Band January 19, 2019

Dan Reed is an amazing trumpeter who started his musical journey at the ripe old age of nine in St. Louis, MO. While still in high school, Dan had an opportunity to play one night at the Preservation Hall in New Orleans where he met Al Hirt. This is when he fell in love with traditional Jazz. With music in his blood and St. Louis Jazz surrounding him, it’s no surprise that his greatest professional influences were Louis Armstrong, Al Hirt, Maynard Ferguson, Bill Chase and Doc Severinsen, just to name a few. Dan has been described as an amazing musician and as much fun to watch as a “whirling dervish.” Dan and his Hotshots will take the audience on a trip to New Orleans to hear Dixieland as you’ve never heard or seen before. Dan brings a dynamic and electrifying energy to every performance which gives him his tag line “Dan Reed and friends, keeping it fun!”

Tonic Sol-fa February 17, 2019

Tonic Sol-fa is an Emmy Award winning a cappella ensemble with multi-million selling compositions. The name Tonic sol-fa (or tonic sol-fah) is a technique for teaching sight-singing. It uses a system of musical notation based on ‘movable Do’ whereby every tone is given a name according to its relationship with other tones in the key: (e.g. do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, do). “Do” is chosen to be the tonic of whatever key is being used (thus the terminology ‘moveable Do’). Tonic Sol-fa has established itself as one of the most in-demand vocal groups and one of the most successful independent acts in America. The band began at St. John’s University and includes lead vocalist Shaun Johnson, tenor and vocal percussionist, Greg Bannwarth and bass, Jared Dove. Along the way, they shared the stage with a number of recognizable performers including Jay Leno, Jeff Foxworthy, Lonestar and were recently part of Garrison Keillor’s 30th Anniversary celebration of A Prairie Home Companion. As one reviewer put it, “Jimmy Travis took the stage and within minutes made everyone in the audience feel like his new best friend. His material was upbeat and his approach to comedy was refreshing in a day and age when so many comedians lace their shows with profanity.” VARIETY magazine says, “For thirty years now, Jimmy has been holding audiences spellbound with his unique blend of humor, music and ad lib interaction with the audience.” His entertainment credits run the gamut from performances in the country’s most prestigious theaters for world leaders and Fortune 500 companies to conventions for farm associations, church groups and even NASCAR, which sets Jimmy apart from others with his wide appeal and unique ability to connect with almost any audience. In addition to his comedic skills, Jimmy is also a gifted musician, singer and songwriter. This combination makes him one of the most versatile performers in the industry today. Trying to describe his show is a lot like herding cats. It can be done, but it’s not easy! Because of his interaction with the audience, no two shows are ever the same.
