The PebbleCreek Italian American Club extended an invitation to Unit 40 to join them as well as other PC organizations at Turf Paradise Race Track. We had a wonderful lunch with beef and turkey carving stations, salads and plenty of desserts. There were a few winners among the group and if there were any losers they were reluctant to admit it. Funny how that works. What everyone did admit to was having a great time.

Our last big event of the season was a picnic held on Saturday, May 3 in the Tuscany tennis area. Despite the hot weather we had a wonderful turnout. It was sad to say good bye to many of our residents who will be leaving for vacations or for their summer residence. On a happy note we have already planned several upcoming events for the 2014-2015 social season. Sherry Atwater did a wonderful job as chairman of the picnic.

Unit 42B

Claudia and Bob Marlin and Janice Rossi

Once again Unit 42B hits a home run by celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a traditional bash held at Claudia and Bob Marlin’s home. Decorated with chili pepper lights (the hummingbirds thought it was for them) and a red pepper piñata, it was all that Cinco de Mayo has to offer in celebrating Mexican heritage and pride with our neighbors. Everyone enjoyed fantastic Mexican food with lifted glasses of Margaritas to toast the day. Another fun filled evening with a spectacular group of homeowners. Salud (Cheers!)

Being part of Unit 51 is like being part of a huge family. We pray for each other, we celebrate one another’s triumphs and we more than joyfully dine together. Sandee Matteucci brought 23 chic chicks together for our May ladies luncheon as we bid adieu for the summer. Tempo’s Restaurant in Verrado was a treat as many of us had never dined there before. Always delighted to try something different, the gals found Tempo’s urban atmosphere and very affordable menu a welcome surprise. Fortunately the calendar had permitted many of us to see some faces that we’ve missed and we were able to pick up conversations where we left off. It was a lovely afternoon and one we’ll cherish until we meet again. Thank you, Sandee, for making the arrangements and finding a new bistro. We wish everyone a safe and wonderful hiatus!

More than 60 Unit 52 residents enjoyed a very festive Cinco de Mayo party on Sunday, May 4 at Sunrise Park. Hosted by Carolyn Minichiello and Maggie Eggleston, everyone feasted on a fabulous array of hearty appetizers and margaritas with a background of lively Mexican music. Many of the partygoers moved over to the bocce courts for games as well as trying their luck at horseshoes. Desserts and more games filled out the afternoon and evening.

Assisting with the party were Social Chair Carol Liltz and the entire committee including Leann Drummond, Emily Grotta, Madelyn Jacques, Nancy Rosenfeld, Karen Borchers, Susan Armstrong and Phyllis Kotyluk. We also gave a big shout out and thank you to the many husbands who helped with a lot of the heavy lifting.

Sherry Gonzales

Lots has been happening in Unit 58. April was Dessert First in the Desert Ladies Luncheon hosted by Nancy Wilson Smith, Dotty Werner and Sherry Gonzales. The unit ladies were treated to scrumptious and delicious desserts ranging from gluten free kinds to the gooey, “don’t tell anyone that I ate this” type. Over 30 ladies enjoyed light healthy refreshments followed by dessert! We all signed non-disclosure forms first!

May found the Unit 58 ladies at Carrabba’s for Italian food. This event was hosted by Roberta Fiorino and Luella Thurston. Little lovely bouquets of flowers were given to each attendee as a gift for Mother’s Day. Roberta shared a family poem written by her great grandmother and passed down to the ladies in the family over the years. The group, as always, enjoyed good conversation and food.
