Unit 8 Holiday Celebration

Shawnee Robison

Olé! Muy bien! Señoritas y Señors! Brushing up on our Spanish, sixteen of us gals spent a “very good” evening crunching tortilla chips, sipping cool Cadillac Margaritas, dining on delectable Mexican delights from sizzling beef fajitas, super burritos and bacon wrapped shrimp, to their special fried ice cream! We celebrated Christmas together and reveled in one another’s company. Hostess Jane Holdcroft wanted us to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas by being together and sharing our love for one another!

Merry Christmas from Unit 8!

The ladies of Unit 38 celebrated the holiday season with a lunch at Eagle’s Nest on December 6. Twenty-seven unit residents gathered in the Alcove to catch up with neighbors. Residents that have moved into Unit 38 since the last luncheon were honored.

Unit 43-A happenings

Carole Schumacher

On November 18, thirty-five fun loving residents of Unit 43-A had their social outing at the horse races at Turf Paradise in Phoenix. We had a wonderful lunch and then watched (and some placed wagers on) the eight races. The third race of the day was the PebbleCreek Unit 43-A Sprint. It was six furlongs on the turf course and had an $8,000 purse for the winning horse, Champion Risk. Several lucky Unit 43-A members were accompanied to the race track to watch this race, met the winning horse and jockey, and toured the silks room. Some winners and some losers, but fun was had by all. Thanks to Deb Chrisman for making the arrangements!

Unit 51 holiday party

Janet Miazga

Our 2017 Holiday Party was another success! We had a nice turnout for our evening which began in the Portofino Lounge with drinks and appetizers, along with our famous group participation Christmas carol singing led by Doug Christensen. Once we all had a chance to mix and mingle with some neighbors we hadn’t seen in a while; we moved into the Chianti Room which was very nicely decorated by our Social Committee – Carol Adkins, Faye Sessoms, Jerri Christensen, Pam Harper and Sandee Matteucci. Catering did another fantastic job, both with delicious entrees and superb service, and our DJ got almost everyone out there on the floor dancing away. The evening flew by and everyone left with a smile on their face. Certainly was an enjoyable holiday event for Unit 51!

Unit 51 fundraiser

Janet Miazga

Unit 51 residents showed their love and generosity once again this holiday season by responding to our annual Pajama Program fundraiser. This is a nationwide organization that provides new pajamas and books to children arriving in foster care, giving them a secure and nurturing bedtime environment. Each year, Sue Borgstrom and Karen Bush have graciously collected our donations of pajamas and nightgowns for infants, toddlers and young children through teenagers with an appropriate age book with each one. Our unit of 61 homes donated 64 sets – what generous and giving souls! Thank you, Unit 51!

In keeping with our desire to provide different types of unit events, this year’s fall party didn’t disappoint! Decked out in their finest western garb, 40 cowgirls and cowboys kicked up their heels at the Unit 51 Hoedown on October 28 in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. After dining on a scrumptious BBQ buffet dinner complete with all the fixin’s, the dancers donned their red bandanas and took to the floor. Our professional square dance caller couldn’t have been more patient as he taught us the basic steps that eventually turned us into competent square dancers! Many thanks to Faye and Larry Sessoms for the idea and to the social committee for planning the evening!

Unit 52 holiday party

Unit 52 enjoyed their annual Holiday Party Sunday, December 3 in the Tuscany Falls Chianti Room. Following the cocktail hour they enjoyed a wonderful dinner on tables festively decorated by Claire Stamper, sister of committee member Meg Chrisman.

Hal Martin provided the music for listening during dinner and a lot of dancing throughout the night. It was a beautiful evening with many thanks to Social Chairman Nancy Rosenfeld and her committee.

Unit 53 Christmas brunch

Sandy Stephens

Susan Jackson hosted a Christmas Brunch for the Unit 53 gals on December 4 at her lovely home beautifully decorated for Christmas. Brenda Rollagas did a bang up job arranging the get-together and asking everyone to bring an egg dish, fruit plate, bread or drink. Susan’s husband Jon was joined on his bass guitar by three other PebbleCreekers—Manny Fernandez, Jim Miller and Ed DeFord—all decked out in Santa hats. They played Christmas songs for the gals joined in by Linda Larson, Susan’s sister, who is an accomplished vocalist. The sun was shining, the day warm and the setting on Susan’s spacious patio perfect.

Unit 53 happy hour

Sandy Stephens

Richard Lundgren hosted the Unit 53 Happy Hour on Thursday, November 16 to a large lively and fun group. Everyone brought something to share and the Unit 53 Happy Hours have turned into dinner parties over the years. As there will be so many snowbirds and friends leaving to be with families during the holidays, Unit 53 will not have a December Happy Hour but by January we will all be ready to get back with our neighbor friends and share our holiday news.

Unit 58 social hour

Susan Jackson

Bart Alford and Irene Manalili hosted the Unit 58 Social Hour on Monday, November 13. The theme of the evening was International hors d’oeuvres, with participants bringing an appetizer or treat that reflected their heritage. A variety of wonderful dishes from stuffed grape leaves to Swedish meatballs and German chocolate cake were enjoyed by approximately 40 attendees. As a special treat, the PebbleCreek Hanalei Ukuleles group entertained us with several songs. The group, led by Ross Hart, included Irene Manalili, Jon Jackson, Karen Andrews and Edward DeFord with featured musician Manny Fernandez, a former winner of the People’s Choice Award for three CDs he produced along with the Best Hawaiian Music Album in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Unit 61 gets into the holiday spirit

Residents of Unit 61 got all wrapped up in the holiday spirit on Sunday, December 10. Over 80 neighbors participated in assorted events which included decorated golf carts, caroling, making and setting out luminaries and ended with a delicious dinner at the home of gracious hosts Chuck and Kris Gillum. Residents used their imaginations and creative talents decorating their golf carts and prizes were awarded. Participants then merrily drove their carts down the streets of Unit 61 stopping on each block to serenade residents with cheerful holiday songs. After singing their hearts out, all proceeded to Santa’s workshop to make up 300 luminaries which were set out on the driveways of each home/lot in Unit 61. It was a festive sight after the sun went down. The grand finale was at the beautiful home of Chuck and Kris Gillum. Neighbors brought delicious Chili and everyone enjoyed a fun evening of good food and great company.

Unit 62A happy hour

Gary Bomar

Unit 62A held their monthly happy hour at the home of Bruce and Lynn Banks on November 30. A total of 37 people made it to the happy hour. For a small, yet growing, unit we had a great turn out. Adding to the festivities was a gorgeous Arizona sunset.

As with all of our happy hours, participants brought a dish to share. Among the many dishes were meatballs, pizza, baked slider sandwiches, salads and various desserts, including festive cookies. We look forward to our next unit happy hour in December when some of our snowbird friends will be here to join us. Our happy hours have included good food and great company; an unbeatable combination.
