Tennis Turnover

Susie Anderson

Winston Churchill said, “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” I think our PebbleCreek Tennis Club President Ken Minichiello followed this advice well. Ken has been an agent of change for the last four years and his term will end in December.

Ken’s four year term started a.ice president. As VP Ken was responsible for the care and maintenance of all tennis courts, facilities and equipment and served as liaison between PCTC and PC HOA. In three years he had to deal with almost 150 maintenance issues such as replacing or fixing nets, lights, drinking fountains, replacing score cards, court resurfacing, wind screens, flooding, tree trimming and more. He helped establish a routine maintenance schedule with HOA Facilities. He also worked with HOA Facilities in helping them identify needed improvements that should be included in future HOA Operational Budgets so that they are done in a timelier manner.

In the one year as president, Ken initiated the Court Utilization Program by adding more tennis activities throughout the day such as ladders, round robins, drills and skills, lessons, drop ins and soon to come couples mixers with dinners or potlucks. He established an annual budgeting process and highlighted the expense reports. He initiated a fundraising 50/50 raffle to generate additional revenues and excitement during our socials. He changed the seventh board member’s job from “at large” to Communications Director particularly with regard to disseminating more information through the club website. He was always available whenever anyone had a question or concern and gave a timely response. Ken’s hope is that by offering and expanding fun and challenging tennis programs for non-members as well as members people will learn to play or increase their confidence in playing and then join our great club. He appreciates all the dedication of the Board members from the past four years and all the PCTC members in our common interest in growing and improving the tennis club! Ken is predicting that more positive changes will come with the new board.

Thank you, Ken, for all that you did for us. See you on the courts!

All PebbleCreek tennis enthusiasts are invited to come to December’s informative membership meeting on the sixth at 5:00 p.m. at the Tuscany tennis hut. Also taking place will be the election of new board members. Our annual holiday party is December 14 at 5:15 p.m. Help spread Christmas cheer by bringing along an unwrapped gift or gift card for the New Life Center residents. Sign up on website for tickets.

Try one of the new formats in the afternoons; ladders, round robins, skills and drills. No need to commit to each week. www.pebblecreeektennis.org

Happy holidays. May 2018 bring you and your family blessings and good health (and maybe a new pair of tennis shoes!)
