Tennis: Every game begins with love

Susie Anderson

Cheers to you, a new year and all the opportunities in front of us!

The effects of the El Nino weather pattern have cut into our tennis for several days in the first part of January. We are hoping for dry courts for our Sweet 2016 social and matches.

The December Christmas Party was attended by 103 happy people that were hardly recognizable in real clothes. Jeanne had a wonderful meal planned for us and it was as expected, delicious! The Eagle’s Nest Ballroom was festive and President Jerry was our own Bob Hope/Jerry Seinfeld as he entertained the crowd with snappy one liners and his own brand of witty repartee. Santa’s elves delivered gifts to lucky girls and boys. Our DJ was Hank Tokarz and his tunes were enjoyed by all. Many thanks go out to Jeannie Schimmelpfennig for the last social of her reign, all of the helpers, the staff at Eagle’s Nest and all of the Tennis Club members for their enthusiastic participation in this and all of our events.

Remember to put your $30 check for dues in the drop box at the Tuscany Tennis Hut. What a deal you get: free tennis 365 days a year, monthly socials with a delicious meal and prizes, lighted courts, ball machine and sweeper and a new clock by courts 11 and 12. There are many opportunities to play within PebbleCreek and against other communities in the west valley. There are nine leagues, drop-ins and lessons. Our Welcoming Committee can answer many questions and you can contact the chairperson Bernadine Helriegel at 623-547-1973 or email her at [email protected]. Don’t be shy because we want you to play with us!

Board meetings are open to all club members at Tuscany Tennis Center every month on the first Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. We thank our outgoing board members for their hard work and dedication to improving this club. Jeanne outdid herself each month with creative menus and hauled tons of food, drinks and serving items for our dining pleasure. Rana kept us updated, informed and educated, along with trying to keep us stylish by having tennis wear included in the golf pro shops (coming soon). Carol McKenna and Susie will try to maintain the high standards that were set by these two exceptional ladies.

Watch the website for information about the social in February: Doubles or Nothing, a mixed doubles tournament on February 27 and 28.
