The Tennis Club…reflections

Happy New Year to everyone! Pour your cup of coffee and nestle in for bragging rights reading. The Tennis Board accomplished so many improvements in 2014. No, we didn’t leap tall buildings or become masked crime fighters, but I will tell you the cold hard facts! Appointed in April, our new Social Director Jeanne Schimmelpfennig started with a bang. We have had 11 socials, including two non-tennis tennis socials and ending the year with our Christmas Party dinner/dance. She has done a fabulous job, which isn’t easy planning food for 50 to 80 people every month. Hats off to Jerry and Jill Santy for organizing the Tournament play and pairing up everyone who signs up. In April resurfacing construction began with courts one and two. Out with the sand and in with the new hard court surface. Court seven was totally removed and for losing court seven we received not one, as originally planned, but two brand new hard courts at Tuscany. In June the Board purchased a ball hopper for all of us with sore backs, to sweep up balls. July was the month for the birth of the Comfort Court Program which is intended for new tennis players or returning from injury. The biggest change: as of August 1 our new website and court reservation system went live. What a tremendous accomplishment! Almost a year of research, planning, meetings and testing systems until all the bugs were out and an easy system developed for all to use. Dan Lichtenfeld and Jill Santy were behind the scenes and currently Dan is our webmaster who continues every day to post on the website and assist everyone with any questions. To keep current we updated and revised the Handbook Rules and Board policies as well. In September new jazzy score cards arrived. Ken Minichiello is our do it, fix it, take care of it, order it and if it ain’t broke don’t mess with it, vice president. Ken has been a significant asset to the Board as his knowledge in the construction industry has been very beneficial. In addition Ken has built the Men’s Drop–in to 75 plus guys. Our last feat has been the new Welcome/Hospitality Committee formed in November. Prospective members and new members are welcomed into our tennis community and are guided with all the information they need. Our club Treasurer JoAnne Braun has done a superb job of keeping our books balanced to the penny, continuously updated member information and insightful input on every Board decision. The secretary, well she gets credit for the Tuesday Tennis Tidbits, Post articles, updating the HOA website, minutes and general information in the tennis centers. Thank you, Mr. President Jerry Santy, for your leadership and driving force to complete every task necessary in the year 2014. Our goals have been accomplished to make this a better Tennis Club for all members. Kudos to the Tennis Board!
