Monday after Easter was a fun day for the PebbleCreek Quilters. We enjoyed our Spring Luncheon in the Tuscany Ballroom and had a lovely meal by Toscana’s. Two of our quilts were displayed and it was very humbling to watch our members admire the special work our club creates

After lunch the mood was jovial as we listened to our speaker from Oklahoma who is as informative as she is entertaining; Sherry Meeks’ quick wit and sense of humor got all of us in the mood to think outside the box with our orphan blocks. Sherry’s guild back home makes complete quilts out of one to three blocks and they look fabulous! She inspired all of us to go home and not toss those forgotten and unappreciated blocks we all have in our closets. Thank you, Sherry!

Our Opportunity Quilt, Irish Stone Creek, on display at our luncheon, was entered in the Arizona Quilt Guild 2015 Show held at the Mesa Convention Center. We are very proud to announce our quilt won a First Place ribbon in the Group Category. We all agree that Wendy Gilbert’s inspiring Irish Chain design class and Barb Maurer’s quilting combined to make this an award winning quilt. Of course, we are still selling raffle tickets, so who knows, it could be you going home with a First Place winner! Tickets are only $1 each or six for $5 at the Creative Art Center Expressions Gallery. You can also purchase tickets with your Paypal account by going to www.pebblecreekquilters.org and clicking on the Sales-Opportunity Quilt Tab. Here you can purchase tickets for six for $5, 12 for $10 or 25 for $20. Thank you for your support and good luck!

Also on display at our Spring Luncheon was our WWI quilt Remembering Almo. As part of the centennial observance of the start of World War I in 1914, The Kansas City Star newspaper and The National World War I Museum are presenting the World War I Quilt Show Where Poppies Grow, June 18 through 21, 2015, at the National World War I Museum, 100 W. 26th Street, Kansas City, Missouri. The PebbleCreek Quilters’ version of the quilt has been accepted for display at the show. There were close to thirty PebbleCreek quilters involved in making this quilt and our club is extremely proud of their hard work. Should any of you happen to be traveling in that area this summer, please try to stop and see how the quilt looks on display and possibly even send us a photo. Unfortunately, it is only going to be on display for four days.
