Trivia Titan Dan Miczek is to the PebbleCreek Singles Club what Alex Trebeck is to the TV game show Jeopardy. Those of us who have participated in the Singles Club Summer Pub Quiz competitions over the years have come to know Dan as a serious minded, no nonsense master of ceremonies who generously volunteers hours of his time to develop challenging questions designed to keep his fellow singles mentally sharp, acutely astute and years away from taking dementia drugs.

I had heard that Pub Quiz Nights were about getting together at local restaurants once a month over the summer and having fun. I learned rather quickly that the night could also be about feeling as bright as a burned out 20 watt light bulb.

When I signed up to participate in this summer’s Pub Quiz I was determined to come into the competition with an edge. I did some intense research and started eating all of those super gut microbe smart foods like Omega 3 infused oily fish sprinkled with blueberries to improve memory function, tomatoes full of lycopene to prevent free radical damage to brain cells, dark green broccoli to enhance cognitive skills and lots of plump green olives full of brain boosting Vitamin E.

Did it work? No. I still get stumped on questions like—“What country has banned the Hula Hoop?” and—“Where is it illegal to drive while you are asleep?” But I will tell you those great big green olives full of Vitamin E sure do make me think I’m smarter, especially when they’re drowning in a Grey Goose martini

Come join us, everyone! We really do have fun. The next Singles Summer Pub Quiz will be held Thursday, July 30 at Gordon Biersch Brewpub in Glendale. Plan to arrive with your brains bulging with crazy, useless, fascinating facts that you will totally need to know to win one of Dan Miczek’s Pub Quiz Challenges!
