Saturday, October 25 marked the twentieth season opener for PebbleCreek senior softball.

This year there will be 142 men and two women beginning the season representing 12 teams.

The 12 team sponsors this year will be American Solar, Desert Golf Cars, Arizona Royal, Arizona Orthopedic, PebbleCreek Steve, Augies, Dunton Health & Wealth, Osborne Jewelers, West Valley Golf Cars, Questar Financial, Spooner Physical Therapy and Bobby King.

The 12 managers in order of teams listed are Paul Zuckerbrow, Steve Ward, Al Chandler, Rich Karp, Mark Roberts, Sandy Riddle, Randy Prinz, Mike Burke, Dennis Makinen, Ted Wallace, Gary Jensen and John Spencer.

During the ceremonies, President Chuck Tredway presented Carlton Lee with a 15 year jacket. Ron Glynn threw out the first pitch to Carlton Lee since these two were battery mates for 10 years for Desert Rose who won three consecutive championships. Bobby Quarantino was recognized for this being his twentieth year in the league. I think Bobby was playing softball while dinosaurs still roamed the earth.

Major responsibilities for the day were handily performed by Jim Beyers (chairperson), Lee Ayers (Opening Ceremonies), Chuck Tredway (Welcome and thank yous, presentation of awards and introductions), Pat Engalls (singing of the National Anthem),Dick Gwilt (beverages) and Jim Jarvis (invocation). Many thanks to the volunteers who assisted and to Mike Donaghu who provided the sound and to Ed and Marsha Schneider and Kathy Phelka for taking pictures.

It is estimated that between 275 and 300 people attended the opening day ceremonies at one time or another and were able to enjoy the pastries and coffee served from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. and the lunch that was served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

All 12 teams played games throughout the day and it was a memorable opening day.
