Rug Hookers of PebbleCreek celebrate the holidays

Prior to some of our members heading up north to meet Santa, the Rug Hookers of PebbleCreek celebrated our annual Christmas party at the home of Karen Bogadi. We thought we might eat less if we planned a buffet of appetizers and desserts. How wrong that intention was! The variety was amazing and there was no duplicity, even though we never shared what we were planning on bringing. Many of the dishes were home-made goodies. It is obvious that the hookers are not only accomplished at their craft but also in their kitchens.

In addition to eating holiday goodies and sipping champagne infused with fresh pomegranates, attendees participated in a wool exchange. This event has become an annual tradition and is always entertaining and fun. Members submit a 12 X 18 inch piece of wool which is gift bagged and the exchange often evolves into a swap once the fabric is visible. Some of the pieces are coveted by attendees as they imagine how wonderful the fabric would look in one of their current or planned projects. This year our event organizer, June Bennett, donated some of her wonderful glass jewelry. One necklace was “stolen” more than once.

Several members of the club participated in a challenge that involved hooking a preselected pattern (see photo) but encouraged thinking outside the box in finishing it. Attendees voted on the pattern they liked most. The winner, Millissa Masters, received a hand-woven basket she can proudly display in her home anytime of the year. By the way, the sign reads “We Miss You, Priscilla” as our founding member is undergoing medical testing on the East Coast. She was in our thoughts and hearts that day.

The Rug Hookers meet every Monday afternoon from noon to 4:00 p.m. in the Fiber Arts Room in the Creative Arts Center. For further information contact our current club President Dee-Dee Patrick at [email protected] or phone her at 708-494-0008.
