For some, the number 13 can be a lucky one. It was for Ray Measles who on Monday, November 13 scored a hole-in-one at Wigwam’s Heritage Golf Course (aka Red course). It occurred during a Desert Interleague event as Ray, a PCMGA member, represented PebbleCreek in a match against the Wildfire Golf Club.
Ray hit it right into the hole on the par-3 second hole. The distance was 147 yards; a perfect yardage for his trusty Taylor Made 7-iron. On this hole his opponents from Wildfire, Rick Smith and Kent Bookman, had hit first. Cort Wyss, his playing partner, then teed off; then came Ray. He hit a great shot and all four players saw it go in. His opponents just looked at Ray and said, “I guess we can pick up now!” Ray and Cort took two out of three points in the match.
The entire PebbleCreek team celebrated Ray’s awesome shot after the match. As custom, Ray bought drinks, of course. Ray is a frequent member of PebbleCreek’s Desert Interleague team. This is a traveling team that plays all across the valley. PCMGA members sign up to play and the captain forms the team. This year’s captain is Jerry Treece. Jerry succeeded Lyman Gallup who was the prior captain for several years.
Ray has been playing golf for 20 years. He was originally from Texas but lived in Alaska for the last 32 years before moving to PebbleCreek. This was Ray’s third hole-in-one. His first hole-in-one came in October 2015 at the 11th hole at Pueblo di Cochiti golf course in New Mexico. He had hit a pitching wedge from 107 yards. His second came at Eagles Nest’s hole No. 4 on July 30, 2016. He had hit an 8-iron 144 yards.
