PebbleCreek Tennis Club March Mardi Gras and More

Roxie Forrest

PCTC’s social director, Joan Patchin, deserves a hearty thank you for a job well-done! On Feb. 13, our social, Mardi Gras, was held. Fifty-six members signed up to play tennis and over 68 social members attended the luncheon. Total attendance for this social hit an all-time high of 125! Also, thank you to Diane Bostock, tournament director, for making sure sign ups occurred at both Eagle’s Nest and Tuscany Falls. This was very successful and will be implemented in future socials. The 50/50 raffle netted $200, putting $100 into the PCTC treasury. Thank you to all members – players and social – who assisted in making this a great success. Wow!

On March 7, the club’s Mixed Doubles Club Championship was held. Twenty-two players checked in at 8:30 a.m. and the matches began at 9 a.m. It was a round robin style of play with the following champions: 3.0 level – Kathy and Tom Lopez; 3.5 level – Julian Bindler and Vikki Constable; 4.0 level – Rick and Barbara Camozzi. Congratulations to all! All players enjoyed a lunch of sandwiches, chips, vegetable tray, and homemade cookies.

If the month doesn’t bring “April showers,” the club will hold another social on April 4. Check-in will be at 9:30 a.m., with play beginning at 10 a.m. Lunch to follow. Also, the Sun City West interclub social is scheduled for April 19, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., followed by beverages and snacks for players.  More details will be available on the website at www.pebblecreektennis.org.

News from your board: President Dennis Whitley announced that Randy Welsh stepped up to fill the vacancy of vice president. Welcome, Randy!

Jim Meyers reported that we currently have $11,160.96 in our bank account. Expenses last month were $1,763.26 mostly consisting of the cost of two socials and income for the month was $685 consisting of dues and the 50/50 raffle. Current members stand at 289.

A new CRS (court reservation system) administrator has been selected. Welcome, Doug Stansfield! According to Dennis, Doug quickly learned the system and has been helping members log in and make court reservations.

Regarding the Welcome Committee, Janet Wise has stepped up to head this committee with the help of Joanne Braun. She will work with the board to come up with a new process on getting information to new members.

Our club is what you—the members—make it. Please attend the monthly general meetings held the first Wednesday of each month. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, April 1 at the Tuscany Falls tennis hut. Hope to see many of you attend!
