For those wondering how political parties are structured here in Arizona, Arizona’s State Democratic Party is broken down into county parties. In Maricopa and Pima counties, we break the county party into legislative districts so we can work locally in our communities. Legislative District 13 (LD13) is an independent arm of the Maricopa County Democratic Party organization, with its own leadership team and goals. The PebbleCreek Democratic Club is one of several local Democratic clubs in the West Valley and the more than 260 members of our club are members of LD 13.

LD 13 hosted a social event at Waddell’s Longhorn Corral on Aug, 25, and 35 of us gathered to meet newcomers and talk about preparation for the 2020 election. Speakers included Maritza Saenz, executive director of the Maricopa County Democratic Party and PebbleCreek resident Mary Kay Utech, a public school advocate, who serves as a governing body member and spoke about non-partisan issues of local school funding sources and tax credits.

Mrs. Mary Kay Utecht graduated with a degree in secondary education from the University of Idaho. She spent 33 years in the public school system in the state of Washington, where she taught at every level, became an administrator at the elementary school level, and worked from the staff development office as an instructional facilitator throughout the district.
