The cast of On Golden Pond is announced

Laurie Farquhar

The classic love story from the 1970s, On Golden Pond, is coming to PebbleCreek and the PC Players is very pleased to announce that a stellar cast has been chosen for this spring 2016 production.

On Golden Pond had originally been scheduled for this fall but it was postponed until next spring because of the backstage construction project at the Renaissance Theatre. Director Jon Lindstrom says the delay did have a silver lining because it meant that more people were available to audition for the show. The award winning story was also an impetus for some actors to make a return to the stage after a hiatus of several years.

The leading characters, Norman and Ethel Thayer, will be played by Newell Tarrant and Shirley Robinson. Their daughter Chelsea and her fiancé Bill Ray will be performed by Kate Tracy and Joel Walters. Ann Silverstein will play Bill Ray’s daughter, Billy Sue; Jim Greer will be Charlie the mailman and Sheila Jacobson will be the Operator.

The PC Players production will run four nights from Wednesday, March 8 to Saturday, March 11, 2016. More information about the show and how to get tickets will be available as the opening date approaches.

Audiences around the world have loved On Golden Pond so mark your calendars because you won’t want to miss what critics have called “—a rare and memorable theatrical experience.”

“Build the Backstage” with The Arizona Trio and a terrific dinner

The Performing Arts Council proudly presents the first benefit event to support PebbleCreek’s Build the Backstage fundraising campaign on Friday, May 8 in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. There is a cash bar from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. after which dinner will be served. Complete with a delicious, full course surf and turf meal, entertainment and exciting raffles, the evening offers something special for everyone.

You can become a patron of the arts in PebbleCreek

Carrie Mataraza

For the first time in its history the Performing Arts Council is introducing a Patron of the Arts program that will give theater goers in PebbleCreek the opportunity to show their support for our very own Renaissance Theatre and the resident performing arts groups who entertain us there.

The PAC resident groups have an important role to play in helping to fund the backstage expansion which, along with the renovation of the theater itself, will take place during the summer of 2016. The expansion project is a shared investment by Mr. Ed Robson, the PebbleCreek HOA and the clubs comprising the PAC: PC Players, ShowTime, PC Singers and PC Musicians. The goal of the fundraising drive, which includes the Patron of the Arts sponsorships, is to raise $100,000 to build out and equip the new facility.

The reasons that this project is necessary are many. Here are just a few:

• Currently there is no backstage area.

• The large casts and crews of the various productions have only one bathroom and an inadequately small dressing area in which to change costumes, now done in storage areas, the bathroom and even outdoors.

• There is nowhere to place stage sets that are now being moved onto and off the stage from the back stairwells outside the building.

• Getting into position to go onstage for entrances is very difficult as is exiting the stage.

So here is your opportunity to become a Patron of the Arts in PebbleCreek! You are invited to do so by contributing a tax deductible donation made payable to Build the Backstage Campaign. Please mail it to Bill Palmer, Treasurer, 15744 W. Roanoke Avenue Goodyear, Arizona 85395.

In appreciation your name will proudly appear as a Patron of the Arts in every resident production program during the 2015-2016 performance years.

Here is what your contribution will help to do:

• Build a staging area of 18 x 72 feet onto the backend of the present building. Plans include a high acoustic ceiling, concrete flooring with epoxy finish, LED energy efficient lighting and double doors 10 feet high that will provide the ability to roll sets on and off stage.

• Install an additional bathroom, a large make-up and dressing area and closed circuit television to be used during performances.

• Make the new space handicap accessible.

• When shows are not in production, it will become a multi-purpose room for rehearsals, meetings and so forth.

There is a brochure containing all the details available from our website www.PebbleCreekHOA.org or phone Carolyn Weese at 623-935-0747.

We live in a unique community, in part because of our own volunteer arts groups and their work and, in particular, because of the very exceptional people like you who support the arts in PebbleCreek. Thank you!
