Carrie Mataraza

Auditions for ShowTime’s fall production will take place Monday, April 16 and Tuesday, April 17 from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at the Renaissance Theater.

The music of Rodgers & Hammerstein rated No. 1 in the recent ShowTime survey of shows you would like to see in PebbleCreek. Here is a chance for singers to showcase their talents. The program consists of a stunning collection of the compositions that have become an integral part of our musical theater history.

The cast calls for five Principals (three women and two men) and will also include a variety of other vocalists in solo and ensemble pieces.

If you are interested in auditioning, please contact the director, Kathy Mitchell, by email [email protected] and she will schedule your audition time and let you know when audition packets will be available.

Auditioners will be expected to sing a Rodgers & Hammerstein song. Music and practice CDs will be available in the audition packets.

Readers Theater performs Dr. Seuss in Schools

KT Tanner

PC Players Readers Theater school performers rehearse for their performances sharing in the celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Using his lively sense of humor and unique way with words, Dr. Seuss wrote over 45 children’s books with over one-half billion copies sold worldwide. The Readers traveled to three schools in the Dysart School District to perform some of those stories for first through third graders.

The first story, Because A Little Bug Went Ka-Choo, is a Cat in The Hat I Can Read All by Myself book by Resetta Stone. The story demonstrates cause and effect. “One fine summer morning a little bug sneezed. Because of that sneeze, a little seed dropped. Because that seed dropped…” Presenter, Jan Edwards, led a discussion with the students about how their actions led to rewards or consequences.

The second story, The Zax, describes two impossibly stubborn individuals too stubborn to get along. Presenter, Jan Edwards, led a discussion with the students about compromise, giving a little for everyone’s good. One student responded “someone just needs to be the adult” and work things out. How about that for a second grader!

The last story, What was I Scared of? describes a very confident young child—“Well…I was walking in the night and I saw nothing scary. For I have never been afraid of anything. Not very.”—walking in the woods. All of the sudden she sees pair of green pants walking along with no one wearing them. Then she IS scared. The pants run, ride a bike, row a boat, hide behind a bush. Eventually the child sees that the pants are scared, too. They become fast friends. Presenter, Jan Edwards, asked the students why the child would be scared of the pants. Then the students talked about things that used to scare them but did no longer once they got to know them.
