Despite not having club, board, social, or committee meetings of the PC Dem Club in several weeks, the members are continuing to support the local community in this time of need.

The club adopted Agua Fria Food and Clothing Bank (AFFCB) as its community project for 2020 and we have made numerous trips with food and cash contributions to assist. According to Judy Hart, co-chair of our Community Benefits Committee, and Brian Cudmore, a committee member, club members have contributed 920 pounds of food to date and about $150 in funds. Agua Fria, like most organizations of its type, is not accepting non-food contributions like clothing and housewares because they count on volunteers to sort, label, and organize the donations to make them available to their clients. Volunteers are not being utilized at this time, so although we are continuing to collect those contributions, we are storing them until they can be donated to the charitable site. We had donated 137 pounds of non-food items until they stopped collecting them, making the club’s contributions over a ton to date!

In addition, members have grocery shopped for groceries for both members and non-members of the club and scheduled themselves to donate blood. Some participated in Light a Candle to support those who are current and past healthcare workers, which involved putting a candle on their mailbox on the evening of April 10.

The club also notified its members about the wonderful opportunity to give through the Arizona Tax Credits for Donations to Charitable Organizations option, through which those who pay Arizona personal income tax can take two separate tax credits for contributions to charitable organizations: one for donations to Qualifying Charitable Organizations (QCO) and the second for donations to Qualifying Foster Care Charitable Organizations (QFCO). We all are looking forward to the resumption of our busy lives here in PebbleCreek. We miss our family and friends. However, by listening to knowledgeable medical personnel and observing social distancing and other protective measures, we will come together as a nation and as a community. For more information on the club, see PCDemClub.org. Stay safe.
