The East Valley has the Waste Management Phoenix Open but the West Valley has the PebbleCreek Community Church annual golf scramble. For the fifth year church members and friends teed it up on March 16 at the Palm Valley Lakes Course.

This was one of the monthly fellowship events of PCCC. While 32 played golf, 16 more played a card game named golf on the clubhouse patio and later another 18 came for the evening BBQ dinner. Jan Lovett’s fellowship committee (Becky Chapman, Jan Kirk, Betty Moser, Carol Rudisill and Joan Witt) collected 22 door prizes from local merchants that were awarded. More importantly the event resulted in a $175 donation to Agua Fria Food Bank.

Team Modderman (Dave Modderman, son John Modderman and friends David Baynes and Josh Deason) won the highly competitive golf event with a score of ten under par. Three teams tied for second at four strokes back and the team of Sharon Becker, Bob Fievez, Ray Hadden and George Thomas took the scorecard playoff. Claiming last place, tastefully named the lost scorecard award, were Syd Mersereau, Frank Giocomo, Hal Merwald and Jim Reynolds. Hal Merwald’s longest putt apparently did not contribute greatly, but John Modderman’s longest drive did. Other winners were Dorrie Clark (longest drive women), Douglas McFarland (closest to pin men) and Taz Raza (closest to pin women).

Continuing the first place sweep, Lisa Modderman won first place in the golf card game. Ray Banks took the lost scoresheet award.

Everyone looks forward to another opportunity for victory and fellowship next year. In the meantime additional photos of this event can be found on the church website at www.pebblecreekchurch.org.
