PebbleCreek Community Church Deacons: What do they do?

Jan Kirk and Leota Easley

PebbleCreek Community Church has nine elected Deacons and one Elder liaison. The Deacons are the helping hands of the church who minister to members, associate members, regular attendees and others in PebbleCreek who are in need.

Our newly-elected Deacons this year are Deniece Gibbs, Sharon LaCascio and Susan Preston. Leaders of the Deacons are Leota Easley, chairman, Barbara Klaessy, secretary, Susan Preston, card ministry and Jan Kirk, Elder liaison. Those that continue to serve are Joan Olson, Judy Merwald, Ruth Walters and Taz Raza. We thank Dorrie Clark, Becky Chapman and Bob Henry who have just completed their terms for their faithful service.

The card ministry mails greeting cards to members and associate members, associates being members who also maintain a church membership back home. From 2016 through April 2017, 375 get well, birthday, encouragement, anniversary and miss you cards were sent. Additionally, sympathy cards are regularly sent to those in need of support within our PebbleCreek community at large.

The Deacons provide bereavement services for church members and others when requested. An updated comprehensive Guidelines for Funeral Assistance includes the responsibilities of the Pastor, Chairman of the Deacons, church secretary (Marsha Lyons, from whom the Guidelines may be obtained) and music director (Donna Giocomo).

Our Deacons minister to the sick by providing meals for shut-ins and those recovering from surgery and short-term illnesses and making hospital and home visits. A total of 25 meals have been served since January 2017. A new Deacon Helpers list of 35 volunteers helps provide meals.

The Deacons keep informed about all in our PebbleCreek Community Church congregation and pray for the well-being of the congregation as well as others the Board knows are in need of prayers. The Deacons also make phone calls and visits including to those on the church prayer chain.

The Deacon Board meets monthly (except through the summer) to ensure our functions and responsibilities are being met. More about our Deacons and about other activities of our community church here in PebbleCreek is found on our website: www.pebblecreekchurch.org.
