PebbleCreek Art Club news – December 2014

Kudos to our outgoing board officers

Sherri Heitz

The Art Club wants to acknowledge our appreciation to three ladies who have contributed so much to our club during the past few years. Three positions change out every two years which enables new officers to have others on the board who are totally familiar with the policies and procedures followed in the past making the transition easier for new officers. Good idea! Our outgoing board officers are Gretchen Olberding, president, JoAnne Clements, vice president education and Nancy Hampton, artist liaison. Nancy’s position is not as an officer but she is a member of the board.

Gretchen has been our president for the past two years and has done an outstanding job as our leader in every way. Her tireless and ongoing devotion to making this club better has not gone unnoticed and we all appreciate her contributions which are too many to list.

JoAnne Clements is the Vice President of Education and has worked tirelessly to provide the art classes we all enjoy each month. She has been a wonderful ambassador for our club and we salute her efforts.

And last, but not least, we thank Nancy Hampton who has held many positions and served the club for 10 years. She has been the artist liaison for the past three years with a huge responsibility for bringing in a variety of professional artists every year. Nancy works closely with the vice president of Education scheduling and setting up the classes for the year which we all enjoy; not an easy job for either lady.

Thank you, ladies, for your devotion and hard work in making this club more wonderful than before. I know I am speaking for the entire Art Club in showing our appreciation for all of your time and energy to not only our club but to the entire community.

Words of wisdom

Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me About Being An Artist

1. Don’t compare your work to others. Compare your work to your old work.

2. You don’t have to go to Art School but doing so can get you further, faster.

3. Someone, somewhere, will love what you do (and pay for it). Find them.

4. Really good work takes a really long time to make. Be patient with yourself.

5. Create every single day even if it is all garbage. You cannot improve on a blank canvas.

The joy of painting in pastels

Sherry Heitz

No drawing! No experience! Complete your project in one session!

If you have never had any experience in painting but you have always been curious as to whether or not you can create a piece of art, this is the class for you! TBird and Sherry are both artists. They are a husband and wife team who work together to help students make and finish a piece of artwork in three hours. Their hope is that if there are two or three students, at least, who find that they wish to pursue this medium after one of the classes they have taught, then they have accomplished their goal.

This couple is from Canta Mia which you will find if you head south on Estrella Parkway.

Sitting in on one of their classes in Pastels was a good experience in how to teach; they are very, very good and I personally found them to be a delightful couple. In addition, everyone left with a completed painting and a desire to take another class.

They are quite popular so look for one of their classes in the pebblecreekhoa.org under Things To Do and look up Art Classes on the Art Club Calendar. Then go to the Expressions Gallery in the Art Center and sign up for the class.

What happened at the Art Walk event?

Sherri Heitz

The Art Walk, which took place on October 17 in the Tuscany Clubhouse, was a huge success. Classical guitar music was provided by Duane Langston, a fabulous and very creative artist who is also our in-house classical guitarist. Duane taught classical guitar at Boise State University for 24 years and moved to PebbleCreek a couple of years ago. If you have not heard him play, plan to attend one of our events or catch him elsewhere at various events.

We doubled our sales this year and are so appreciative of the support we are receiving from the PebbleCreek community. Tuscany was packed at various times from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and it is reported that we had 200 to 250 people in attendance.

The voting for People’s Choice goes to Loretta Pruitt with her colorful and vibrant paintings. Her painting titled Elder garnished the most votes while her other two paintings ran a close second. They were all wonderful and vibrant.

Loretta won last year as well. This year we are also recognizing Karen Horst for her three paintings as she received the most votes after Loretta.

Congratulations, ladies, and again our thanks to all of the PebbleCreek Community who were able to attend and participate in the Art Walk.
