PCMGA conducts “Goofy Golf” tournament

On Thursday, May 30, the PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association held their annual “Goofy Golf” tourney on the Eagle’s Nest course. This is a fun event where the members play from all sorts of teeing areas and the flagsticks are placed in precarious positions. The format was a four-man team scramble with a three-drive minimum for each player. A total of 96 players participated.

“Goofy” is a great description. In some cases, there was not even a flagstick. For example, on hole No. 7, three holes were cut on the green but no flagstick was used to mark the hole. Players hit to the green without knowing where the hole was cut. The idea was to hit the green and then choose the closest hole to putt to.

The tees were set in unusual places. For instance, on hole No. 1, the tee was actually on the driving range and players had to hit their drives between or over trees to get to the first fairway. On the 5th hole, the tee was located in a grove of trees. Several tees were set on sides of hills or on a downward slope.

The pin placements were dastardly. Several were set on side hills or super close to the edge of the greens. On hole No. 14, the hole was not even on the green! But the 15th was the most devious as it was set on a “skee-ball” type location. Two teams even 7-putted this hole, meaning it took between 25 and 28 attempts to hole their putt.

Flight 1 winners:

1st place, Barry Stauffer, John Low, Steve Wonder and Bob Brown; 2nd place, Tom Hume, Bill Palmer, Dick Wiederhold and Ed Stadjuhar; 3rd place, Joe Little, John Adams, Mike Cline and Roger Pierson.

1st place, Michael Slaughter, Rick Vaughn, Gino Rinalli and Larry Blackburn; 2nd place, Gene Howard, Barry Schuchman, Erik Riswick and Stan Lockitski; 3rd place, Joe Chimera, Jim O’Grady, Dennis Howland and Ray Measles.

Immediately after play, the members were provided brats, sides, cookies and beer/soda on the Eagle’s Nest patio.

The PCMGA wants to thank Gus Gustafson and Jeff Lebo for the fun set up of the course and to Dave Vader with help in scoring.
