PCM9GA holds Summer Survivor Golf Classic

What do Creekers do when the temperature hits triple digits and the monsoon comes rolling in? Well, if you are a member of the PCM9GA, you play the infamous Summer Survivor Golf Classic.

This tournament took place on July 12, with the desert sun blazing down on 48 hearty souls, who decided to brave both the elements and the special challenges laid out for them on the Tuscany Falls Golf Course.

Temps of 100 degrees weren’t enough of a challenge, so the tee boxes for this event were the “Work of the Golf Devil, Himself.” They were strategically placed on every hole. Our intrepid linksters had to hit over, through or around trees just to get onto the fairway, where their shots in to the green were met with equal challenge.

Creativity was the hallmark of the event. Apparently, there was a lot of it judging from the bragging that took place afterwards when the Golfing Niners shared libations.

When both the dust and the braggadocio settled down, the winners stepped up to claim their rewards.

First place score of 29: Gerald Sota, Bob Caldwell, Josh Rabinowitz and Joey Romero.

Second place score of 29: Joe Oliver, Ted Hallenbeck, John Craven and John Ward.

Third place score of 30: Bill Hill, Rick Fulton, Dan Borchers and Walt Himes.

Closest to the Pin honors on the Par 3’s went to Jim Mitchell and Dan Borchers.

Talk about doing more than surviving—all 12 foursomes broke par in this event, ensuring that next Summer Survivor Golf Classic will produce even more diabolical challenges for our intrepid Golfing Niners.
