Our PCM9GA group, now about 300 members strong and a far cry from our most humble formation a decade ago, had well over 100 of our ever enthusiastic members participate in a Scramble Tournament format on a very pleasant November 13 afternoon utilizing our Tuscany Lakes and Palms Courses.

Our pairing committee invariably keeps our members in some animated degree of suspense since we never know just what new or modified format will be for our tournaments. However, for this tournament, the very common Scramble Format was deployed which basically requires each foursome to utilize the location of the best drive and succeeding shot for every hole. The only restriction, to keep an even and competitive playing field, was that each foursome member was required to have a minimum of two of their initial drives used. This often relaxes some perhaps less proficient high handicap team members but more often than not, it is the one errant drive from a team member in the final one or two holes, whose drive must be used, that makes the difference between a winning foursome or an “also ran.”

This time the competition was so incredibly close that four teams on the Palms Course and three teams on the Lakes Course all finished up with, as astonishing as it may seem, a net 34. Therefore a set of quite complex AGA tie-breaking rules were required to determine the first, second and third place winning foursomes. Our hats off to the winning team members as follows:

Palms Course, Score, Team Member

First place, 34, Gary Houser, Dave Reinke, Pat Sherlock, Karl Bergstrom

Second place, 34, Doug Wainwright, Gary Lord, Don Burrows, Larry Larson

Third place, 34, Connie Neeley, Bob Carlson, Bob White, Rick Miller

Lakes Course, Score, Team Member

First place, 34, Pete Pedersen, Bruce Barlow, Jim Halbmaier, Josh Rabinowitz

Second place, 34, Don Belonax, Don Hamilton, Bill Schroder, Mike Seip

Third place, 34, Willard Bradshaw, Greg McKenzie, Lee Ayres, Clay Troxell

Closest To The Pin Winners

Don Belonax, Don Hamilton, Paul Zuckerbrow, Tom Bashwiner

Our PCM9GA group tremendously looks forward to a very full schedule as we start our new year which, in addition to our bi-monthly tournaments and weekly events, will include our Turf Paradise outing on January 19, our first annual Niners Member-Guest Invitational Tournament on February 26 and our annual PCM9GA Championship Flight Tournament series in March followed by our annual all member meeting and our Annual Awards Banquet in April.

The PCM9GA membership continues its ever expanding growth rate with the current membership now very near 300 members which represents well over a 600% increase in the past several years. Our PCM9GA highly encourages prospective new members to join our fun loving group which welcomes golfers at all skill levels. The annual $50 cost includes dues for the AGA membership which is essential for handicap reporting.
