Arizona is certainly a genuine mecca for golfing and typically, outside of our torrid summer months’ furnace like climate, our state attracts many thousands of visitors primarily for golfing activities. For the summer months, the mass exodus of many of our PCM9GA members takes place, yet on Thursday, August 14, our enthusiastic group of about 12 foursomes participated in a somewhat fascinating Two Low Net Tournament utilizing our Tuscany Lakes Nine Hole Course. The combined lowest net score for two of the team members, based upon their individual prevailing AGO established handicaps, was the basis for compiling the aggregate foursome net score for this nine hole tournament event. In practice, this format enables all foursomes to be quite competitive and typically a mere stroke or two will separate the winning teams and most foursome nine hole net scores will be bunched very closely together depending on the challenge level of each hole; therefore, a high handicap rated team member could attain a net Eagle or Hole-in-One by making a PAR on that hole.

As anticipated, the competition was so close that the two foursomes came in with a net 60 while closely behind, the third place team wound up with a net 61 and the rest of the pack attained scores also from the low to mid sixties. Hats off to the first place winners which were Bob Brooks, George Nagy, Ken Gangl and Clay Troxell. Second place honors for the second team with the net 60 score, since tie breaking rules were initiated, went to Dave Mabey, Jim Halbmaier, Barry Taschner and Greg McKenzie. So close behind were the third place winners with the net 61 comprised of Dave Gasch, Al Lowe, Gene Lindsey and Stan Fuller.

Closest to the Pin Winners were Bob Caldwell and Monte Page.

Due to the forthcoming PebbleCreek overseeding process for the month of October, our PCM9GA group has scheduled four off campus weekly events which will include the Falcon Dunes Course on October 9, Tres Rios on October 15, Coyote Lakes on October 23 and Coldwater on October 30. Also, our fourth annual PCM9GA Holiday Party will be held on Friday, December 5 and the just announced Turf Paradise Race Track outing will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015.

The PCM9GA group, now close to 270 members strong, has a truly awesome membership role largely comprised of easy going and fun loving golfers and welcomes new members at all skill levels. From July 16 through October 16, the reduced membership rate of $35 for new members prevails. After October 16, the cost for new members will be $50 but will cover all dues for the remainder of 2014 as well as 2015. The standard full year membership renewal dues are $50 which includes fees for the AGA membership which is essential for handicap reporting.
