PCLGA kicks off the season with a College Game Day Tournament

Susan Franzone

You could feel the excitement in the air as the teams arrived for this year’s PCLGA College Game day! It was a sold out audience with handpicked teams playing a two net best ball format with a twist. The mascots were waving in the wind and the cold chilly morning really made it feel like a good old fashioned fall kick-off to what promises to be one of the best seasons ever!

The frost delay came as a surprise but was welcomed as the sun warmed their smiling faces at the registration table. Pam Volm, Sandi Harrell and Janice Goodwin scored a touchdown with homemade football cookies and snacks for every player. The goal post on hole No. 1 was a real challenge and quite impressive! They certainly made our first tournament of the season a huge success for everyone.

This season is going to be one that will be remembered with a smile. The new surge in membership brings a renewed enthusiasm, energized volunteers and treasured traditions with new twists and innovative ideas. Even the luncheon that followed was out-of-the-box with Kebabs of all kinds, a kicked up a notch black bean and corn salad with chips, followed by the always comforting brownie.

Looking back on the day, I can’t help but think of a phrase we all know and love: “Make new friends, but keep the old—One is silver and the other is gold.” It was a great kick-off but the challenge remains for the rest of the season. Good luck to all and finish strong!

Everyone was a winner on kick-off day, but some managed to set the bar even higher for us all to follow. Congratulations and cheers from the crowd go to all the teams who shined.
