PC Singers present Spring Concert

PebbleCreek Musicians are in full swing

Susan Kice

In preparation for their upcoming spring concert, Burst of Music XII, under the direction of founder Bruce Birnel, the PebbleCreek Musicians have been diligently rehearsing since the middle of October. This group of talented musicians, comprised of many of your friends and neighbors, have been delighting PC audiences with their “big band” sounds for the past 11 years. And they will continue to do so again this year from March 21 through March 23. Have no doubt this year will prove to be even better!

From Latin to pop to swing genres, there is bound to be something that will surely set your hands-a-clappin’ and your toes-a-tappin’ as you listen to those great old tunes of yesteryear. And as with most Big Bands there will be featured vocalists—Karen Follett, star of stage and screen…well, at least our stage and Barry Jeannelle, the former “Mr. Karaoke” himself.

So, move over Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and make room for The PebbleCreek Musicians as they present Burst of Music XII.

Tickets will go on sale March 8 at midnight and will be sold online only. To purchase tickets, go to the HOA Website, Things to do, Tickets Sales, Pebblecreek Musicians, Burst of Music XII. Follow prompts. Tickets are $16.50 each including handling fees.

Love to dance? Try Dance Fusion

“This Land is Your Land” celebrates American folk music

Laurie Farquhar

American folk music has a rich history going back to the early days of our country. Its songs were often stories passed down through the generations. In a salute to this unique genre of music, ShowTime is presenting a musical revue in April called This Land is Your Land: A Celebration of American Folk Music.

Director and writer Dave Silverstein, who has been involved with folk music most of his life, says he has wanted to bring an old-fashioned hootenanny to the Renaissance Theater since he first joined ShowTime nine years ago. He knows there are many people in PebbleCreek who share his passion for folk music and he is excited to see his ideas come to life on stage.

Many of the songs that he has chosen for the show will be from the 1950s and ’60s when folk music was at the height of its popularity. They will include numbers originally performed by well-known musicians like Peter, Paul and Mary, the Kingston Trio, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. To keep the show authentic, traditional folk music instruments such as the mandolin, banjo and guitar will be played by several musicians on stage. With familiar songs and live music like a real hootenanny, Dave hopes the audience will be encouraged to sing along with the performers.

This Land is Your Land will run six nights from Monday, April 8 to Saturday, April 13. Tickets will go on sale in March and will be sold both online and in-person. More information about ticket sales will be available soon.

American folk music is an integral part of our country’s past, telling stories that did not make the history books but were important accounts of everyday life. This Land is Your Land celebrates those songs and you are invited to join in the fun.
