PC Singers celebrate success

Donna Swagger

“Music can change the world,” and change the world it did for audiences who attended PC Singers’ Spring into Song! Kudos and praises were proclaimed as appreciative audiences departed the theater. Post-concert comments included, “great song selection,” “PC Singers outdid themselves,” “terrific performance by our talented friends and neighbors” and “wonderful amazing talent.” Thank you, friends and neighbors, for your continued support of the chorus!

As the season came to a close, a potluck dinner was held in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom to show appreciation to Director Gail Kennedy, the Singers, and the technical support staff who worked so diligently to make the spring concert a success. The chorus will enjoy a three-month break before resuming rehearsals in August for the 2018 Christmas concert.

The chorus’ newly elected officers will assume their duties on July 1, 2018. Vice President Jerry Drake advances to the presidency position and President Walt Kalback moves to the role of immediate past president. Cliff Mercer continues his two-year term as Treasurer. Newly elected board members are Donna Swagger, Vice President and Ann Abke, Secretary. Director Gail Kennedy serves on the board, also.

Vice President Donna Swagger is a native of Pennsylvania and a retired teacher. She moved to PebbleCreek in 2005 and has been a member of PC Singers for twelve years. Musically, she participated in school, community and church choirs.

Secretary Ann Abke hails from Michigan and worked in the Health Care field. She has been a PebbleCreek resident for eighteen years and joined PC Singers three years ago. Her music background includes school and church choirs.

PC Singers has openings for all voice parts. PebbleCreek residents interested in joining the chorus may call Nancy Gustafson at 623-215-3292 or pick up an application form at the Club Information Center located across from the Eagle’s Nest Pro Shop.

Got tech?

Melissa Kallett

If you’ve got technical aptitude, or interest, and time…there is a place for you in the PC Players Community Theater club. We are looking for residents interested in learning to operate the light and sound boards to support our semiannual productions. Alas, the actors you see on the stage are only one piece of the production team that brings our shows to life. Behind those actors and actresses are set designers, construction workers, costume designers, seamstresses, artists, stage crews, and the aforementioned light and sound technicians.

If you have experience operating stage lights or sound equipment, or are interested in learning how to operate them, I’m interested in hearing from you. Summertime is a great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the panel operation and we’re here to train you.

Our upcoming 2018-2019 shows have been selected and work is underway now to bring them to the stage. Our fall show in October will be American playwright Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias, and the spring show in March, Reginald Rose’s Twelve Angry Jurors. If you are interested in working behind the scenes, please contact me, Melissa Kallett (club president) at [email protected] or phone 623-882-6170. Truly, it takes a community to bring Community Theater to our stage.
