Curtains up on “A Night at the Renaissance”

Curtain up, light the lights

We’ve got nothing to hit but the heights—

And nothing’s gonna stop us ‘til we’re through—

Everything’s coming up roses for me and for you.

After months of writing, rehearsing, singing and dancing, opening night for A Night at the Renaissance is just around the corner. This highly anticipated production is a fundraiser for the Build the Backstage project which will help expand the back stage area of the Renaissance Theatre making it safer and more functional for everyone who uses the theatre.

The show is a unique collaboration by the four performing arts clubs – PC Players, ShowTime, PC Singers and PC Musicians – and it will feature some of PebbleCreek’s most talented singers, dancers, musicians and comedians. Styled after the popular television comedy Laugh In, there will be lots of short skits and jokes in between songs and dance numbers. This show will be a celebration of previous productions from the past 15 years plus fresh, new material that promises to put a smile on everyone’s face and a song in their hearts. PebbleCreek’s own Dan Rowan and Dick Martin will host the entire evening.

A Night at the Renaissance opens Monday, November 16 and runs only six nights to Saturday, November 21. Tickets went on sale October 17 and any remaining tickets can be purchased at the Eagle’s Nest kiosk on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:00 a.m. to noon, until sold out.

The four performing arts clubs are excited about working together on the Build the Backstage project because they know it is a great investment in our community. And the community’s enthusiastic support of the expansion plans will mean audiences can expect to see much more top-notch entertainment in the Renaissance Theatre in the future.

Auditions set for “Damn Yankees”

Have you ever thought you would sell your soul to live a life-long dream? That is the premise behind the award winning, classic Broadway musical Damn Yankees.

Yes, ShowTime is in the midst of preparing for A Night at the Renaissance, on stage this month, but we are also planning ahead for our spring show. Damn Yankees, directed by Kathy Mitchell, will run from April 11 through 16, 2016. So even if your autumn is busy, there is still time to think about what part you want to play in this spring production. And if you’re interested, you’d better act fast!

There are speaking parts for 12 men and six women, plus a choral ensemble and dancers. If you are interested in auditioning, please contact Louise Dick at [email protected] to arrange for your audition packet, now available. Louise will also schedule your audition time. You can also check out the ShowTime website for a list of characters and descriptions.

Auditions are scheduled for Sunday, November 1 and Tuesday, November 3. Once auditions are over we can take a holiday break, refresh and start on rehearsals in January.

Retirement is not for the faint of heart! And “ya gotta have heart!”

See you at the theater!

Sound, lighting and set construction help needed

Have you attended any of the productions staged in the Renaissance Theatre? Did you ever wonder how much enjoyment you might get from being a part of the fine show you saw being presented but are reluctant to be on stage in front of an audience? Are you an electronic techie or do you like to dabble with switches, sliders, CD’s, headsets and microphones? Do you enjoy exploring how to light up a room and add color to it? How about using your carpentry skills to help build stage sets? This is an invitation to residents in PebbleCreek who have an interest in these important aspects of theater production.

There is a need for those with interest or experience with sound to run the sound board, microphones, etc. and electrically proficient residents who can perform electronic repair or assistants to help with setting up monitors and microphones and help in various sound related functions.

Perhaps helping in designing and programming the lighting needs for a given show might be right up your alley. Perhaps operating one of our spotlights from atop the mezzanine would interest you.

We are always in need of individuals who are handy in carpentry to help build our sets and props.

You may be interested in learning something new now that you are partially or fully retired and have some extra time on your hands. There is always a place for those with limited skills who are eager to learn. You can develop and enhance those skills while participating in the production of one of our theater shows. Training and mentoring will be provided. Experienced technicians are wanted as well to help elevate our technical capabilities.

Though there are events going on in the theatre all year round, the time commitment required may be brief from one evening to a week, ten days or longer for one show.

The goal is to develop several well qualified assistants and technicians to form a pool for the four performing arts clubs to work with during their productions as well as the ever expanding, excellent shows arranged by the PebbleCreek Activities Department. For further details call Jerry Younker at 623-734-3195. Don’t put it off. Call today and join the fun of helping to bring life, light and sound into a show.
