PC Hiker passes another milestone

Lynn Warren

On May 29, eight PebbleCreek hikers left early for a 10 mile hike exploring the connection between the eastern part of the Estrella Mountain Park near Phoenix International Raceway with the more frequently used western section of the park. During this hike Bill Halte was honored with a champagne toast as he became only the second member of the hiking club to reach 7,000 career miles. Bill has hiked additional club miles but the club’s records only date from 2004. Bill started his association with the club earlier when it was just a few friends walking to breakfast near Safeway; since then the club has grown to over 150 members and now offers five hikes a week during the regular season (September through April). Visit the club website at pchikers.org for more information and photos.

PC Hikers visit Lake Pleasant

Pete Williams

The PebbleCreek Hiking Club had a great hike at Lake Pleasant on June 6, 2017. The early morning hike hit the trail before 7:00 a.m. and hiked up to Yavapai Point from the Cottonwood Trailhead. There were six burros that greeted us at the trailhead having an early morning breakfast on mesquite trees. The group included (left to right) Roger Sanders, Dennis Zigmunt, Mark Frumkin, Wayne McKinney, Dave Schuldt, Wayne Wills (hike leader), Mary Hill and Jim Gillespie. The photographer was Joe Clarkson. The hike was on a combination of the Cottonwood, Pipeline Canyon and Yavapai Point Trails. Yavapai Point provides a panoramic view of Lake Pleasant and is well worth the effort. After a short break at the point, we returned to the trailhead and were finished before 9:30 a.m. for a hike of just under six miles. This group hikes on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the west valley in the summer in early morning to avoid the heat. The next regular hiking season will start on September 25. Visit the club’s website at pchikers.org for more information about the club.
