News from the PebbleCreek Shalom Club

Our Chanukah celebration began on December 12 with the first lighting of the menorah. This single flame was lit at dusk and brought a radiant uniqueness for all to see. And why might you ask was it so unique? Because this year we were blessed with two new menorahs furnished by PebbleCreek’s HOA. Each candle-lighting that followed was done on an individual and volunteer basis.

On Sunday, December 17, we once again had a candle-lighting ceremony followed by a dinner party. We were very fortunate to have Mayor Georgia Lord join us for the festivities. Tables were decorated with dreidels and gelt. Customary foods of latkes garnished with applesauce or sour cream, along with a carving station and dessert. The DJ played fun and traditional music throughout the evening. Thanks to Bruce and Mimi Birnel for planning and coordinating this event.

January 21 will surely be a GEM of an evening! Great food, great company! Who can ask for more? Join Shalom Club members as small intimate groups of new and seasoned members schmooze over appetizers. Later everyone will meet at Eagle’s Nest Ballroom for desserts. At this time we will induct our new slate of officers. This is in lieu of our general monthly meeting. All brought to you by Esther Schatz and Joan Wendroff.

It is not too late to sign up for our Valentine Dance. No monetary commitment required at this time. We just need a general idea of who is interested in attending this fabulous dinner/dance. Where else can you get fine food, a great band, join your friends, laugh and have a good time, right in your own backyard? No worries about traffic, crazy drivers. Leave the worrying to us! You just arrive and have a great time! If interested, sign up on the website. Time is running out and we need to make a decision in a timely manner.

Our February Book Discussion group will include the title, The Zookeeper’s Wife by Diane Ackerman, facilitated by Judy Ruck. Steve Shaffer is contemplating the next movie. Possibly it will be The Darkest Hour. But, stay tuned for the final word from Steve.
