Try Improv – you’ll love it

Carrie Mataraza

We are a group of PebbleCreekers who have great fun trying our hand at improvisation during the summer months! This is our third season, proving how much improv has caught on with those of us who love to be spontaneous, use our imagination and be just plain silly sometimes. Although we began as a group of PC Players and Showtime members, we welcome all Creekers who want to laugh and enjoy each other’s company in the midst of unprompted hilarity!

A typical improv session begins with some warm-up exercises to get our creativity going, exercises that might ask someone to begin a story with just one sentence as each participant continues the story adding on with another sentence. You’d be amazed at what results from this group creation! Then the leader of the session may introduce a scenario that members volunteer to act out. Example: “You’re in a taxi that’s going too fast. Why? What would you do? What would you say?” Some activities include everyone. Some involve only two-four members at a time rotating in and out of the situation. There is never a script, all is impromptu and the rule is that no one is ever embarrassed or critiqued.

All meetings this year will be held at the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom, starting at 6:30 p.m. and lasting about two hours. Our first meeting will be on Thursday, May 3. The next one will be on May 10 and then every two weeks thereafter through summer.

We invite you to join us this season if you, like us, enjoy getting together to have good times creating unrehearsed, spur-of-the-moment comedy. We hope to see you in early May.
