Maintaining cognitive ability – September 16 Alzheimer’s/Dementia Caregiver meeting subject

Rayma Scalzo

Jill Johnston, with the Silverado Memory Care Community, will be the guest speaker for the September 16 Alzheimer’s/Dementia Caregiver’s Discussion Group Meeting. She will speak about the Nexus program.

Mounting evidence is showing that there are modifiable lifestyle factors that not only may delay the onset of a dementia but also could delay the progression of dementia. Learn ways to delay cognitive decline and maintain cognitive ability in this discussion.

Jill Johnston is a graduate of the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota where she majored in Business Administration with a minor in Communication. She has an extensive background in relationship building through her work in fundraising for the arts and educating the community about the merits of using private caregiving services as an option for aging in place. She is a longtime member of the Kiwanis of Litchfield Park and a member of Leadership West. Jill is honored to spend time helping others in the West Valley.

Following the presentation, our time will be spent with members asking questions or sharing experiences. Our group provides information, resources and comfort for those residents who are caregivers for loved ones who have any type of dementia. They could live in the home, at a local care facility or out of state.

Respite Care

We may be able to provide free respite care for those having Alzheimer’s/Dementia disease. This allows the caregiver the opportunity and peace of mind to attend the discussion group meeting. If you let us know, we will try to arrange for someone to come to your home during the two hour meeting. For this assistance, we do ask that you RSVP by Thursday, September 14.

Monthly Breakfast

The caregivers meet for breakfast on the first Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m. This gives them an opportunity to get to know each other on a more personal level. Knowing others who are going through the same journey is very beneficial.

Please Note: Our meetings are for Alzheimer’s/Dementia CAREGIVERS only. We meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. For the location of the meeting or to RSVP for respite care, please contact Rayma at 623-935-1819 or send an email to [email protected].

Hope you join us for this very informative presentation!
