New year-round program announced; PC READS

For the first time LifeLong Learning will be holding programs during the summer, something year-round residents have long requested.

Susie Nee, who is in charge of the program, said the idea of a monthly book group grew from the success of PC READS, in which book groups throughout PebbleCreek read Belgravia by Julian Fellowes and then gathered on a Sunday afternoon to learn about the book and its setting. Many of the attendees, who are already in book groups in PebbleCreek, said they would be interested in a drop-in program, particularly in the summer months when the days are hot and there are far fewer events to attend.

PC READS book group will meet the first Thursday of every month from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the LLL Center. There is no charge, but registration is required and will be limited to 24 people.

The first meeting will be Thursday, June 1 at which Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell will be discussed. To register, go to www.lifelonglearningatpc.org.

On Thursday, July 7 the book will be Foreign Affairs by Alison Lurie, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1985. Registration will be open June 2 for this book discussion.

3mph: The Adventures of One Woman’s Walk Around the World, by Polly Letofsky, will be discussed at the meeting on August 3. Letofsky spoke at a Premier Lecture in January.

PC READS is also beginning a monthly enewsletter that will include information about books, events at the local libraries and news about what various book groups in PebbleCreek are reading. To subscribe send an email to Connie Armstrong at [email protected]. If you are already a member of a book club in PebbleCreek, please make sure Susie Nee has the contact information for your leader by emailing her at [email protected].
