Learn the art of rug hooking

Dee-Dee Patrick

Priscilla Sharp, one of the skilled rug hookers in our club, is once again offering to teach the art of traditional rug hooking to anyone in PebbleCreek who may want to learn this creative and traditional craft. Priscilla has over 25 years of experience and is knowledgeable in all styles of rug hooking – from fine tapestry to wide cut primitive.

Classes will include the following: A brief history of rug hooking; A discussion of the materials that are used; Instruction on the technique; Examples of the various finishing applications.

The $40 registration fee includes the cost of the supplies needed to complete the project (see photo). A special rug hook, a pattern pre-drawn on a linen backing and precut wool strips are the materials provided. There is an additional $10 fee for the use of a rug frame. The $10 is a refundable fee which will be given back after the three classes are completed.

The classes are on Monday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to noon in the Diamondback (Fiber Arts) Room of the Creative Arts Center on the Tuscany Falls side.

Dates are January 15, 22 and 29, 2018.

Give Priscilla a call at 623-536-0182 or email her at [email protected] to register and reserve your place in the class. Registration is limited to a small group so individual instruction can be provided to all participants.
