Jeff Canfield was crowned the 2019 PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association Club Champion. The tournament was held on February 7, 13 and 14. The first and final rounds were played at Eagle’s Nest and the middle round played at Tuscany Falls East.

Jeff shot a total 224 gross score beating his closest competitor, defending champ Jack Schafer by three strokes. Wayne Gearig led by four shots after the first round. Jeff took the lead after the second round by three strokes over Jack and by four strokes over past champions Howie Tiger and Bill Volm.

In the final round Jeff extended his lead to four strokes through 9-holes shooting an even par 36. In last year’s championship final round, Jeff had a 2-shot lead at the turn but faltered on the back nine losing to Jack by one shot. That may have crossed his mind as he bogeyed both the 10th and 11th holes. Jeff then bogeyed the 14th hole and Jack birdied the 16th to get within one shot of Jeff.

But this year was different in a couple ways. Jeff made par at 17 and Jack made bogey. So, Jeff took a 2-shot lead to the 18th hole. Jack striped his drive down the middle. Jeff hooked his left into the red penalty area (formerly an environmental area and a one-shot penalty). Taking advantage of the new golf rules (effective 1/1/19), Jeff hit a great shot out of the penalty area to within 12 feet and two-putted for the win. Congratulations, Jeff!

A total of 113 players competed in seven separate flights. The Championship Flight played from the Black/Blue mixed tees. Three flights played from the Blue tees and three flights played from the White tees.
