Italian-American regional cooking day sets record

Jim Roberts

Mangia Mangia was the order of the day as 106 members and guests of the PebbleCreek Italian-American Club assembled in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom Sunday, February 26, 2017 for the annual feast featuring cooking from various regions of Italy and Sicily. The attendance was a 23% increase over the previous year and a new record for the event. The five course dinner had fancy antipastos, soups that were to die for, beautiful salads that looked and tasted divine and main courses like sausage and peppers, pastas, various lasagnas, Braciole Italian beef rolls and other specialties from throughout Italy. Members were assigned one of the above courses to bring and they were all so good. Some of the dishes were old family recipes that came from the Italian Cookbook put together by the members. You can get it from the club by calling President Ken Minichiello or better yet, come join the club and enjoy the many exciting and delicious events we have throughout the year. No, you do not have to be Italian. If you eat pizza, that is close enough. Come join us and enjoy the great things we do like the Day at the Races. This day is like no other to wager a buck or two, you get Camel and Zebra racing, music from a live band and a full sit-down Prime Rib dinner including taxes and gratuity all for $35 per person. One race will be dedicated to you and all the PebbleCreek crowd, so come with us. It is great fun.

Under the guidance of Pat Atkinson and Joann Fioretti, the dining progressed smoothly from antipasto to dessert. It was really a pleasant event with Italian background music thanks to our wonderful Regional Cooking Event Committee of Vera Cappiello, Bari Cavello, Mary Flynn and Alice Miller. How about a little poetry in their honor:

Italian-American Regional Cooking is Magnifico

To dine on the regional cooking of Italy and Sicily

Is to experience dining Italian at its best quite literally

Foods from the north and the south will be a treat for your mouth

If you follow with an Italian Vino so tastefully

The delights to the palate are varied and many

From pasta capellini to the boldness of the penne

From the sauce marinara to the Veal Parmigiana

The cuisine is superb and worth every penny

So, no matter what your reasons

You need to join the PebbleCreek legions

Who have found the Italian-American Club to be sound

To experience the magnificent foods of all the Italian Regions

Addio per ora (Goodbye for now)
